Is there anyone out there who, like me, wonders why there isn't a "I'm towing a caravan/big trailer selection on the sat nav or am I just being thick and haven't found it. I know that I can select major routes only but this doesn't help when you come off the major routes at the end of a journey and instead of the sensible route the sat nav takes you down a very narrow lane with loads of overhanging branches. No, I'm not a weekend driver or just towing my caravan. I have my class one and can be seen towing Land Rovers on trailers behind my Discovery in many parts of the country.
I once used a Tom Tom in my 110 which took me to the exact postcode that I had entered which according to the Tom Tom was 80 miles from where I should actually be! Mercedes COMAND system would have had me on the M6 going from one junction to the next in a circuit because every time that I arrived at one junction it recalculated that the previous one was shorter route. I'd still be there except my diesel tank would have been empty and they would have towed me away! Luckily I just treated the sat nav as an idiot driver and swore at it and then ignored it and went where I needed to get to. Honestly Marge, I wouldn't have done it if I thought you would find out!

The option to be a truck isn't available in the Discovery sat nav system. Honestly Marge, I wouldn't have done it if I thought you would find out!

Sometimes in life, you have to just do some 'working it out' yourself

I can't disagree with the last comment but it just seems so stupid that on a Land Rover product there is no allowance made for the fact that you might use it for towing and want to avoid lanes with obstructions and no passing places. Honestly Marge, I wouldn't have done it if I thought you would find out!

I do recall reading in the caravan club magazine (or practical caravan) about a satnav that takes into account you towing, though it would be a stick on the window job.

The Snooper S7000 Ventura is ideal, but does not come cheap. I'm trying to justify the expence!

I got the Snooper for my truck, u can set the length/Height/Weight and obviously max speed 56mph and it finds me the route. They were by memory £600 a few months ago (will check Monday if its the same model), but the company I work for bought bulk for drivers to purchase at big discounts. I think I paid £300 through my wages
Top Kit, but I would'nt get one if I was'nt a driver for my occupation.

Thanks all. I think Navman do one that allows you to specify what you are driving too and as we are about to have Navman trackers fitted to the wagons at work I might just be able to blag one for occasional use. Honestly Marge, I wouldn't have done it if I thought you would find out!
