| Sat Nav screen - turning off |

I know that this has been discussed before but I thought I'd ask again. Has anyone found out how to disable the sat nav screen so that it only comes on when its needed - not every time you turn the ignition on.
I have currently fashioned a very nice piece of black paper to cover the screen when not in use, so I don't have to keep pressing the 'screen off' button every time I get in the car.
