You can't use it fully, but you can set destinations and waypoints using preset, or previously used destinations whilst on the move.

End of 2005 or Jan 2006 should come an update (in germany) with it you are able to use all (shure ? I dont know yet) all functions while driving.

Will any future updates be only available rom a LR dealer or does anyone know if it is a third party that provides the system for LR and they can be contacted direct for updates Jim

Hello Jim, the satnav is by Dinso and I think it is factory only.

Just did a search on Google, and I think you meant Denso
Denso Europe
If that is the case then there are no details on their website with regards updates, so you are right in that the LR Dealer will be the source Jim

So the 'Premium' Sat Nav with Off Road data, is this purely a software change or is this a hardware change also

The "Premium" Navigation system with off-road and 4x4 Information is not just a software change and is not an "accessory."
And regarding map updates... they are normally supplied by the car manufacturer and not directly from vendor.
