I am also proud of the British heritage of ALL my cars! All built with the blood and sweat of a proud British work force.

Shame the profit all goes abroad now.

Just a thought, did Bill G have anything to do with the D3's software.

I suppose it does not matter what he drives, if he gets the tyres dirty he can afford another new one.

Out of pure interest, what would you guys actually consider paying for a 9 month old V8 SE auto anyway?

Hypothetically apeaking, I would only pay MUCH LESS than market value for a V8. Having read the papers recently, about oil price increases, WE ARE ALL DOOMED!!!!

Buy a push bike quick, it could be a good investment.

I think it has got to be considerably less than the price of a diesel B4 you will get interest, to make up for the extra running costs!
£3,200?

I think with a gas conversion for about £1200 that is not a bad car. Then the running costs come down by about 2/3rds.

I reckon that 10,000 miles based on 25mpg on gas @ about £0.33 p/p/litre would cost £599. On diesel same figures £1707 @ £0.94 p/litre, that makes a difference of -£92. Over 2 years it becomes a saving or of course with higher miles a huge saving.

Check out my figures Shocked

I agree with your principle Brian, However the numbers will be different. A Quality LPG conversion will cost considerably more than £1200. More like 2 3k for a modern closed loop sequential injection system.

LPG car will do 10 percent less miles to the gallon than petrol equivalent.

I used to drive an LPG converted series 2 V8. The convertion cost me 2900 pounds, and it used to do 13 mpg on LPG. This equated to about 13 pence per mile at current prices. On petrol it would do 16 mpg. This equated to almost 27 p per mile. So the fuel cost saving was near enough 50%

My annual mileage was 35000. So after 21000 miles the convertion was paid for.

In my opinion, if the LPG price differential could be guaranteed for the next 3 years then It would make good financial sense to get a V8 and convert it.

In reality, it cannot. The inconvienience of LPG is considerable. Whilst there are plenty of sites selling it, they don't always have it. The range is very limited on LPG, unless you have a huge tank taking up most of the boot. Most insurance companies are now restricting the max tank size to 100 litres.

On my old D2, the gas tank replaced the original petrol tank, and a small petrol tank was installed in the right rear under boot corner. This gave me a gas range of about 155 miles which was very inconvienient.

Your warranty on the engine will be toast if you convert. I discovered this to my immense cost when my D2 V8 dropped a cylinder liner, LR would not consider paying, even though it was a reasonably common and known fault. It cost me 3.5 k to fix, needing a new engine.

The only problem i can forsee is that soon I can see this goverment taxing LPG for road use and making it not much less than petrol. I considered a v8 before getting the diesel and after working out all the figures and factoring in what I call "the goverment cash machine" I decided that i would not save enough over the next 3 yrs (which is what I think LPG has got left as a cheap fuel) it was not cost effective.
