[For Sale] Rare, early, 3 door V8 manual Disco' 1
Too many vehicles at home and not enough space, something has to give so this is in the mix now.....
Really, really sorted and good condition 3-door V8 carb' model. Not much paperwork with her but one to buy on condition and you can actually 'see' all the work that has been carried out on her. It is extensive and comprehensive......
No rust on her anywhere, all floors, sills, arches, inner wings, everywhere is solid, protected and fresh, you'd think it was just a few years old looking underneath. All door shuts are solid. All the suspension, bushes, units have been refreshed or renewed, new brakes, all brake lines, etc. The original standard steel wheels were blasted and repainted and have brand new Goodrich Discoverer tyres fitted all round (including spare). I've added OE fitment locking wheel nuts x5.
Bodywork was repainted during lockdown, its original colour and is not bad, but not a perfect, job. Original style period decals replaced. Interior was stripped out, cleaned and put back, its tidy all round with no tears or rips to carpets, door cards, carpets, it even has the Conran 'console' bag still in place!.
Engine bay is really clean and again lots of evidence of refurbed/replaced parts (brand new alternator fitted at point of sale to me). I had a post up a while back about her starting on the button but then coughing and spluttering to a stall after 40 seconds or so. Had a carb specialist home visit who checked it all over; carb settings, compressions, sparks, etc. (said the engine is "really healthy") but suggested main reason was the points on way out and suggested electronic ignition be fitted (I had looked at this when I first got her as I've not messed with gapping points since back in the 80's ) so I'd have this as first job to enhance her daily usability. She is running much better now though.
I was at the classic car show at the NEC a couple of weeks back and given what the D1's there were described as 'beauties' and 'immaculate' then mine is much better (some of them at the show were desirable 'G-WAC's' though....), I have not yet seen a D1 in better condition than mine anywhere, I saw one for sale at £40k but that was a show princess, I really do not think you will find a better one than this anywhere and not at this price. Best of all is she is standard still all round, must be rarer still like that!
Still needs a few jobs doing if you wanted to make her even better;
- Electronic ignition as above
- Some interior trims are warped/vinyl coming away - mostly in rear around windows and alpine lights - you can still buy these new!
- radio needs sorting - loom at the unit cut off short, no idea if this radio works but it is period model.
- locks, I'd say well worn (may be key, but it's fine in ignition switch?), sometimes have to jiggle key in door locks and I'm not sure tailgate has any internals - I slam-locked it and had to climb through rear to pull the knob back up to open it.
- B-post finisher, fell off on way home Thought it was rare as hens teeth as looking for a 3-door part but one of the guys at the CC show said 5-door finisher is the same - plenty of them on eBay
She has a clean MOT until 18th December 2024 with just an advisory for slight play in front wheel bearing (nipped up).
Look at the photo's, have plenty more and some video clips of her running, etc.
Price is a firm £10,000 on her, be sad to see her go but SWMBO can't drive it and 'hates it' (she even prefers what she described as 'The Hearse' Merc' estate I have) and I'm leaning towards keeping the van I have for sale. I do, however, need to 'liquidate' some assets having been stung for £25k of unpaid invoices when my last employer went bust so here it is....
Photo's to follow on

WOW 😍 I love that
Memories of my first 200tdi with the same blue interior and centre bag are flooding back
Sadly my 3 bay garage is full and I’d be wanting to garage that to preserve it with it being so nice.

Little bump as I’m going to need to sell it; lost my storage and struggling with clutch pedal so won’t be using it much.
Booked in for new inlet manifold gasket (it’s sucking air) and a ‘tune’ (next couple of weeks by local Indy specialist) to get her running all sweet again. Runs ok with a bit of choke on.
Starts first turn of the key, even if stood for weeks (as it has been).
Open to sensible offers ‘as is’ or post the gasket change but she will be going.
There definitely isn’t many of these, certainly even less in such amazing, original, unmodified condition.
Viewing welcomed, it really is amazing.

Inlet manifold and carb gaskets done and carbs balanced, runs sweetly now.
Going on eBay next week, has to go as nowhere to keep her now.

Me too. Many a trip around Europe was undertaken in D1s, all 3 door. Happy days.
