[For Sale] Dicovery 3 TDV6 2.7 S Manual - Spares/Repair.
Hi,
Sad sale of our Discovery 3 TDV6 2.7 S manual, grey cloth interior. To cut a long story short, it has a suspected bearing failure.
Engine started tapping, had it to our local LR garage who had a stethoscope on it, identified tapping from LH bank. Stripped it to look at the tensioner, which turned out to be ok. They suspect a bearing, but I cannot afford/justify the cost to investigate any further.
So, being sold as spares or repairs, sold as seen, for this reason.
Just under 168k on the clock. As far as I can think, everything works as it should do - aside from the air con which must have a leak somewhere. When re-gassed it's fine for a week or two, then stops blowing cold! Never had any issues with the suspension, some good grabber AT3's all round. Age-related wear & tear.
I'm looking for £1k, it is available now. It starts and drives, but I would strongly recommend trailer/towing it away.

Hi Ronnie,
I don't know which bearings I'm afraid. I was going to take some pics of the inside after I'd given it a bit of a vacuum! But will try and get some this evening if you're still interested and don't mind muddy mats etc.

How mine started, first a tap tap, then a flap flap as if something loose underneath, then screeching, then car was stripped and scrapped. And about 1k miles before yours.

Ooooo, wow! That does sound very screechy! Makes mine sound great...tempting to carry on running it and see how long it lasts!!!
If I had the space (which, unfortunately I do not!) I'd be either seriously considering a repair, or breaking, as you did. However, no space, so it's going to have to go.

Now that sounds like an adventurer, just make sure you have right level of AA/RAC/GF/etc so when it does go it’s covered. Recovery is not cheap without it.

Just to clarify Ronnie, I wasn't suggesting running it to death (or even running it) then selling it on as a potential repair!
I would much rather see this repaired then scrapped.
Though, the curiosity in me would be interested to see how long it could go for before thumping to a standstill!!!
