There's a one way valve in the bottom of the airbox that should allow any water that gets that far out before it gets to the filter, unless you're sitting in water deep enough for it to be unable to drain, but if you are chances are the battery box and all the electrickery behind it is probably submerged too so the water you're sucking into the engine is only one of your worries The End

Wow i have caused some debate here, firstly the reason i did fit the snorkel was to ensure 100% watertight fit to the airbox,and also to improve the airflow to the K&N filter.
I have found a marked response improvement during acceleration and also no increase in exteral noise (i am running AT2's so that probably drowns any noise out) fuel economy has always been good on this vehicle so i am a happy bunny.
During our weekend with ENT we certainly had tons of heavy rain and as out of curiosity i checked the air filter and guess what Bone dry!

The LR RAI leaves the porous hose between the side vent boot and the ait box. There is a activated charcoal impregnated hose and a 'religious' rubber elbow.
I filled mine for the removable snorkel:
