Rust
I was preparing the car and caravan to go off on holiday. When I removed the plasic cover off the rear bumper to expose the towing electrics, I was a little suprised to find that there was a small amount of rust forming around the edges of the rear cross-member.
It looks very much like the surface rusting on the chassis, that previous Discovery models suffered will also occur on D3.
Whilst it will probably take many years to get nasty, it is there. I will get some photo's tomorrow.

I noticed exactly the same when fitting my tow hitch .
Seems like LR heve felt the need to continue with its 'traditional' thin paint treatment to all chassis parts; I noticed a similar problem on my previous Disco and a few years ago bought a new Defender upon which the rear cross member was very visibly rusty after just 6 months!

Had my head under the back end of mine yesterday afternoon and notice I have a patch appearing on the one of the chassis members right at the back not even 6 months / 5000 miles old Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Whilst not wishing to make any excuses for the rust (I've got some too), the chasis members are of a stature that means the rest of the car will have fallen to bits long before it causes any problem!
It's in the marque.....starting with the Series I.

All part of the charm of the machine......
That said, the current Discovery (mine is, anyway) seems far better in that regard than any of the previous Land Rovers that I've had.

Hi
This my first post, must say it is a great site and i have gleaned lots of info from it so far. So well done to every one thats contributing.
I had a dealer fitted adjustable tow bar fitted this year and noticed the same area's of corrosion, when i removed the plastic section to fit the trailer electrics. Apart from that though ive been very pleased with my Disco 3, 13+kmiles and only had one small issue with the electronic hand break sticking. Dealer fixed it quickly.
