Out in France at the moment and concerned about a weird noise that has now happened a couple of times. When going round a fairly sharp left bend at average speed, as I then gently accelerate out of the corner I get a loud rumbling from the front left corner. Initially I thought something was dragging on the road. Listening second time around I wondered if it might be the ABS....except I'm not braking !
Any ideas what this noise could be ?

Worn bearning?
If its under full lock then maybe the bump stops need greasing.
Any noise as you increase speed? All things shipping, storage, transport. UK and worldwide.

I wondered about Bearing but it seems odd that its only happened twice on left turns with no increased noise as speed goes up in a straight line. I have noticed an increase in wheel vibration at high speed but had just put this down to wheel balance. Could this be an indication of a bearing problem?
Its not on full lock that it happened but as I accelerate out of the bend.
Does the D3 have traction control and does it utilise the brakes to transfer torque to the opposite wheel? Its the outside wheel that is making the noise so it could be losing traction.

Hi nichop,
Yes the D3 does have traction control, known as Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Electronic Traction Control (ETC). For convenience, I will refer to it as DSC. It is the likely source of the noise.
When the DSC is activated, an symbol flashes in the dash. This symbol is a triangle enclosing an exclamation mark. The triangle is, in turn, enclosed in a circular arrow.
DSC can be activated if you have a tyre going flat or have different sized wheels on the one "axle". Check your tyres.
Best Wishes,

I would check (in order)
1.wheel bearing
2.bump stops
3.front diff........
all are pretty easy to diagnose
in order of ease and expense, lets hope its no 2..... "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Thanks for the replies. I don't remember seeing the symbol on the dash light up but its possible I just missed it.
I'm slightly concerned about driving back from South of France with a bearing on the way out. I assume to check I need to jack up the car and check for play in the wheel? How about the diff - how do I check this?

Yup...jack the car up to check for play...if its not that then..
Clean and grease steering stops first...(there are pics on here but cant find them)...put full lock on steering and there is an exposed nipple that locates into the wheel...clean and copper grease it to eliminate that possiblilty first...then do the same on the other side.
If its not that...on mine I drove it at snails pace with full lock on.....a very nasty low grinding with a pronounced vibration and jerky progress told me it was the diff....in my case it was more pronounced when doing the above procedure in reverse...
Ggood luck. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

I would first check your tyres flat or different bfore looking at more expensive faults. As Bushwanderer said. Could be a simple fix. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Also check the wheel alignment.
My rear suspension was so far out it wore down the o/s tyre to the canvas in less than 9 months.
I had the DSC cutting in when going round LH bends only.
Since sorting the alignment I've not had a single occurance. Barney
