We have just returned from a trip to Spain.
I got loads of DVD's for the kids to watch on the way and tested it before we set off as we had not the DVD since buying the car.
Travelling down to Dover it worked great and they watched a handful of films.
We got up early the next morning for the ferry and as soon as we set off again from Calais the DVD player was on again.
This time when you tried to play a DVD all you got was a plain blue screen with a message along the lines of "Video signal not recognised".
I tried a selection of discs but all the same.
I tried DVD's they had watched sucessfully the previous day and now these won't play.
I tried all the various options/settings available but to no avail. The same message is shown on the front screen as well as the rear screens.
I convinced myself that something had overheated as it was stinking hot outside and the DVD player was hot to touch inside the rear cubby.
I have tried over the past few weeks and even now we are back in the UK it is not working and get the same message.
Interestingly when you first select DVD you see the grey screen with DVD logo which would suggest that the DVD player is communicationg to the infotainment system?
I see on Topix there are bulletins with regards DVD's not playing but cannot see the detail within them to see if this is a known fault.
Has anyone else experienced this fault?

Any chance a "little person" had played with the remote and changed the screen format from PAL to NTSC. I'm sure this can only be done by pointing the remote to a rear screen! This will give the blue screen error message as it thinks the disc then is the wrong format.
Interestingly enough I have a genuine UK copy of Skyfall which has the opposite effect in that it won't play on the RSE unless I change the format from PAL to NTSC
The manual explains how to change this but I think it's by holding the on/off button for a bit! Not the smartest way to make such a fundamental change as small people are known for holding and pressing buttons at random

I am referring to changing the format of the actual DVD changer itself and not the display screen

Hi Andy,
Yes this is certainly possible however I did read the manual and could not see anything to what you refer - perhaps I've missed it - I will have another look
I did find it was possible to change from PAL to NTSC using either settings or tools (can't remember which) from the DVD menu on the front screen although this didn't seem to make any difference

Changing the format on the front screen isn't necessary as both front and rear screens will display both formats automatically. This is why it had no effect.
I have just checked Topix online and on page 27 of the RSE manual it shows the remote control and button 1 is the on/off button it also states "long press to toggle between PAL and NTSC formats"
I suggest a quick trip outside and fire up the D4, turn on the rear screens and long press the on/off button
That should sort it

Your welcome, glad to have been able to help
It's a shame you didn't post this on the forum from Dover at the beginning of your holiday
