You either believe that what can only be called discrimination in that way is right or wrong and if you think it’s right, then you put one persons life above that of others.
We know it’s so wrong to do it on the basis of gender, sexuality, colour, race and religion, but if it’s the Royal Family, it’s obviously fine. No, it isn’t and it’s about time we got up to speed and the practice was stopped.
and unearned privilege at that, well rehearsed and stage managed maintenance of the myth. I watched some just to see the commoners blind sided again. Once again we suck it all up and few question the moralityD3 2.7 Zermatt silver (not another one)

So you would prefer just to be a third rate insignificant euro state....with nothing to differentiate us from any other.... and dismiss all of our history and circumstance....

You're so right about a meritocracy. The US at the moment is the perfect example of how well that works. A normal guy from a joe-average background works hard all his life and is rewarded - quite justifiably given all his hard work, altruism and imparted honesty and fairness - with leadership of the western world. Plus his decision making is strong and likely to lead to a better world for all.
Honestly, the ticking and whining on this thread by some of the Victor Meldrews makes me laugh/cry. The grass isn't greener. There will always be 'haves' and 'have nots'; some people are brighter than others; many are lazy; some work extremely hard for what they receive; some are born to wealth, others to poverty. Some are born with good genes and will live long and heathly lives; others will die young. Ultimately - despite the technological brilliance brought to us by the likes of JLR, NASA and Apple (and for JLR I refer to the D# and D4 satnav, naturally) - we exist within a society. The alternative per Hobbes is a lot worse.
Cracking wedding. Delighted for them. Harry is a great guy and has done a huge amount for very many people both within and outwith the UK. Certainly more than most, and he's not finished yet. Delighted we have a Royal family who are superb ambassadors for the country. You need to live outside of the UK to really understand that, I'd suggest. PAGODA

Personally, I get fed up with all the profit of doom, die hard Royalists whom predict life without them is the beginning of Armageddon instead of embracing change with an optimism that society develops, progresses and evolves as in all things, but I normally have the good grace not to slag off other people’s point of view as being “Victor Meldrews.” You resort to that, you get personal and derogatory plus you’ve lost any argument you had!

There is a reference to Trump in there, I am not sure that he did not have a pile to start with anyway I think he might even have been voted in too!
I am sure a number of people, some on here do not particularly have a problem with Royals I just have a wee problem with excesses shown by a few and have always been puzzled by the desire of those outside of the UK to have a Royal family. My American cousins see them as a novelty, likeable but outmoded, maybe not the view held in Australia. There’s plenty out there in UK and Overseas that see no benefit and those that see a real benefit. I love Queenie to bits, Anne is tireless in her duties, Charles is mostly agreeable too but then there are the minor royals.........maybe best set as the “Hello” generation. I do not value them as I do not see the service input.
I like the view of Cecil Lewis in Sagittarius Rising, penned in 1920’s as it still seems relevant to our society today, seems to fit with Pagoda’s view too.

I acquired my D3 (and the D4 before it) with hard earned money that I had paid prohibitive Nordic well fare state taxes on previously. I fail to see your point...

There is no such thing as a meritocracy otherwise there would be far more social mobility, you have wealthy parents you go further, you have great parents you go further, you have parents and you’re far less likely to go far.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
