Rotary gear selector won't stay up when cold.
My 14 my gear selector rises as you start the engine, then drops straight back down, will then rise again and maybe stay or if really cold drops again and stays down. Restart and it may stay up or on the second attempt, this has only occurred when cold and not been used for a day or so, maybe a week.
How does this work is it hydraulic, or electric, the dealer has tried to reprogram it, but it made no difference, without leaving it with him a few days for it to be cold hard to demonstrate.
Has anybody else had the problem, I am concerned one day it won't rise at all.
Thanks for any knowledge, ideas,

This is a known issue though not common ...you may need a new "transmission control switch"

Issue:
A customer may report that the Transmission Control Switch (Rotary selector) intermittently fails to rise when the Start/ stop ignition button is pressed or may rise and fall immediately, particularly where ambient temperatures are less than 4 degrees C.
Cause:
The motor within the Transmission Selector assembly may be at the lower end of the specification preventing it from rising within the required time span.
Action:
Where Service Action Q355 ‘Rotary Gear Shift Selector Fails to Rise’ has previously been completed and the customer has reported the issue above, replace the Transmission Control Switch.

Indeed it is a known issue so I am surprised that the dealer did not replace the control when you reported the fault. There is no requirement for the dealer to keep the vehicle for a period to reproduce the issue.

Speak to them before the service date and refer them to the document posted by DG. Ask them to ensure that they have the correct Transmission Control Switch in stock ready to fit.
