Roof bar (OEM) compatibility
Hi,
I would like advice on getting roof bars for a 2009 D3. It has a short t-track.
I originally had the Land Rover cross bars (CAP500020, X026).
I bought a roofbox (Artplast BA320) and found that the fixings that came with it not compatible with the LR crossbars - the crossbars were too wide (the fixings were 6.5 cm, and the LR bars were 7.5 cm). So I then bought (at great expense!) a Land Rover roof box (LR005334). This worked fine.
Unfortunately, I managed to break one of the crossbars (I thought I was lower than I actually was!), and, since they always seem to be sold in pairs, and never as singles, I am now in the market for a pair of crossbars. (BTW, if anyone has a single one lying around and cares to donate it, it will be gratefully received! [cheeky, I know, but worth a try!])
However, on the basis that I DO have to buy a new pair, then rather than just buying the same again, I'm wondering whether I should one of a different design.
As I see it, the disadvantages of the OEM ones are:
- they are very wide - as above. Does anyone have experience of them being too wide for other kit? (eg fixings for kayaks, bikes, etc)?
- they are relatively short (I read elsewhere on this forum that someone had difficulty getting four bike racks fitted onto them).
Are there any bars out there that (i) would fit a LR roof box, and (ii) would be compatible with a large range of other kit?

okay, not a lot of response to that (except one helpful PM [thank you]).
Let me widen the question, then:
What would be the advantages of foregoing any replacement roof cross bars, and just going for something like a Prospeed roof rack?

Thule Aero bars also fit (minimum length 127cm), with foot pack 753 and fixing kit 3027, lock into the T track on the roof rails.I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!
