Well...... I have had few glasses of cider, BUT, I am actually quite serious. I was going to get a roll cage for my defender, (cc £600), but I am seroiusly thinking about swapping cars around.

the more p£$£$£d I get the better the ideas seem. The trick is to make a firm decision before I sober up !!.

Once Ive decided, its just a matter of time Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

No offence intended, but if you feel that you need an external roll cage on a D3 then you might be taking too many chances when offroading.

Very very very few Defenders have setups like that, so I can't see why it's necessary, and especially on a D3.

The money and time would be better spent on an adventure trip or something similar which offers technically rewarding off road driving rather than crashing and bashing about Smile

Obviously that's my view - and as I said, no offence intended at all Smile

Ive bashed my defender several times and now there is a 2cm gap between the roof and drivers door so I get soaked when it rains. Ive also smashed the alpine window on one side. A roll cage would have prevented this...

Dont want the same to happen to the D3

also...., It could look 8)

Surely the art of good off roading is to drive as carefully and smoothly as possible without getting stuck or rolling your ride Whistle

But hey, if you can afford to use a D3 as a hardcore off road toy, go to pay and play sites to tear around then go for it... just steer clear of the public highways and byways unless you adopt the first method Thumbs Up

You could have some sort of strong swing away interlock to allow you to open the Bonnet Dunc.

I have to say, I think you'd be the first to make a real extreme D3 instead of defender or D2 (Roll u[p the queue of D3 extreme pics...)

If you can afford to use the more capable car & have a fully integrated roll cage, then fair play. I don't think I'll be doing it to mine at any point soon, but you already know it's much much more comfortable so why not just take it to the next level. Thumbs Up

Selling the defender should pay for it Smile

DiscoDunc,
Spend the rollcage money on a few L1 & L2 / BORDA courses and a caffeine detox (see Dom Wink ) Anyone can tw@t a vehicle around until it breaks, it's not big and it's not clever - getting to places the 'bash & crash' crowd can't without a scratch is, however, 8) 8)

Not a criticism BTW, just a friendly comment during your Defender to D3 transition phase Wink

Fitting an internal rollcage?

Hmmmm, lots of views. Out here in the sand, gravel and rocky wastes of Oman the possibilty of rollover is probably greater than in Europe. We record around 70 4x4 rollovers a year in my 25000+ company and its contractor workforce, but generally its because the driver does something simple and daft - tyre blow out due to incorrect pressure or absence of pressure check, driving too fast and losing control, stupid overtaking move and sudden swerve back when it doesn't work etc.
That said, driivng over sand dunes and up dry rocky river beds does increase the possibility of rollover, despite taking things sensibly, and thinking the route out first.
I reckon it might be a prudent option out here, and we insist that all 4x4 vehicles in the interior are so fitted. Our company spec. for roll cages and load restraint barriers has stood the test of time, and all must be certified by the fabricators as fully meeting the spec.
My friend has just got his quote for a Series II Disco at the equivalent of 490gbp - bespoke. Am going to get a quote on my LR3, but I wonder if there are potential probs with chassis fixing.
Anyone in the forum in Morocco, Namibia with similar geography who might have ideas? Any thoughts?
