Excellent Robbie. If we ever get cold weather and the FBH does not perform I will be doing this job.

Quick question; when you disconnect the water hoses to remove FBH do you loose much coolant? Does it need plugging if the car's not moving or is it just a negligible loss from just the loop in the pump?

You don't lose much but stoppering or clamping is an option if you want to cut the loss to a minimum. I have cheapo clamps similar to these:

I'm not sure what the sponsors would charge for such a service. Whilst the job is simple it does take a little time to clean the gunk out, so I guess the labour rate would have to reflect that. Conversely this makes it an attractive DIY task.

I work for free so my capacity is limited, but will help where I can.

I've got one I can do this with if that's of any help? Does of course depend on the fault, but mostly I expect It will be blocked as per Robbie's great write up. Thumbs Up

If the vehicle is required for use whilst the FBH is being serviced, or you would like plenty time to tackle the FBH, then the vehicle can be driven without the FBH fitted. Lines and fixtures should be secured / tiewrapped, open electrical connectors bagged and the open end of the fuel pipe plugged (no fuel will be pumped without the FBH fitted).

Does this mean air tight plugged or just bunged up to keep the end clean? Fuel line that is!!

Fantastic write up Robbie Bow down

Your time and effort for doing this write up is much appreciated Thumbs Up

Great write-up, Rob. Thumbs Up

I will be attempting this task at some point over the next couple of weeks. Just need to pick-up a couple of 20mm barbed connectors so I can keep running the car whilst I have the FBH out to service.

I've already ordered some new gaskets from Dan at Duckworth's but was also wondering if it's worthwhile - or even possible - to replace the glow plug at the same time? I imagine these degrade in just the same way that TDV6 glow plugs do and they appear to be a purchasable part on eBay and elsewhere. Does anybody have the correct Webasto part number for the glow plugs (appreciate they may not be available from LR), please?

Iceman08, I should imagine that the fuel pipe just needs to be plugged to prevent anything getting in (and bunging it up). Thumbs Up

I'll add a write-up for the venturi burner assembly and the glowplug.

Steve,

I've just added a further guide to the first page of the thread (second post down) that covers the venturi burner, glowplug and gaskets. I'll expand on any points if you have any questions.
