The reality is slowly sinking in
timesonline wrote:With regard to the tax on 4x4's, the fact is that it does not only affect these vehicles.
I have a Mini which is taxed at the same rate as a Land Rover. In other words, I will have to pay £400 in duty.
The tax was mooted as a way of getting back at the so called 'Chelsea tractor' brigade. This is clearly not the case.
However, this fact is lost in all the rhetoric that the Government have put out on this subject.

I just hope all the press and car mags start to jump on this - maybe some will even realise that modern 4x4's like the D3 are not evil.
Mind you, their bulk will always be a back up issue though

'The tax was mooted as a way of getting back at the so called 'Chelsea tractor' brigade'
Now there is a clear indication of the media & government confusing the poor electorate. Using those nasty 4x4 owning people as 'folk devils' to get a nice 'trojan' tax hike through....oh dear wake up & smell the Tax hike Mr sporty car owner...... 2007 TDV6 HSE 'Silver Lady'. With 'free' privacy glass LOL.
Taking the greenpi$$ is: Green taxing your citizens more & using some of the money to buy nukes.

No need to get too upset, look at the good side; you're still £300 better off than I am per year for road tax. And we pay over 30% more for equivelent model cars over here (that's around £13k more for a D3 HSE). Sure the fuel is a bit cheaper here, but I'd need to do something like 300,000 miles before I'm better off overall! IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!

How much did the fall of Rover cost the UK??? When Land Rover and Jaguar go the same way with the idiots trying to run our country taxing them off the road who will pick up that bill.

his is just the thing to read after yesterday's budget!!!!!!!!!!!
A young man named Gordon bought a donkey from an old farmer for £100.00.
The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day, but when the farmer drove up he said, “sorry son, but I have some bad news… the donkey is on my truck, but unfortunately he’s dead.â€
Gordon replied, “Well then, just give me my money back.â€
The farmer said, “I can’t do that, because I’ve spent it already.â€
Gordon said, “OK then, just unload the donkey anyway.â€
The farmer asked, “What are you going to do with him?â€
Gordon answered, “I’m going to raffle him off.â€
To which the farmer exclaimed, “Surely you can’t raffle off a dead donkey!â€
But Gordon, with a wicked smile on his face said, “Of course I can, you watch me. I just won’t bother to tell anybody that he’s dead.â€
A month later the farmer met up with Gordon and asked, “What happened with that dead donkey?â€
Gordon said, “I raffled him off, sold 500 tickets at two pounds a piece, and made a huge, fat profit!!â€
Totally amazed, the farmer asked, “Didn’t anyone complain that you had stolen their money because you lied about the donkey being dead?â€
To which Gordon replied, “The only guy who found out about the donkey being dead was the raffle winner when he came to collect his prize. So I gave him his £2 raffle ticket money back plus an extra £200, which as you know is double the going rate for a donkey, so he thought I was a great guy!!â€
Gordon grew up and eventually became the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and no matter how many times he lied, or how much money he stole from the British voters, as long as he gave them back some of the stolen money, most of them, unfortunately, still thought he was a great guy.
The moral of the story is that if you think Gordon is about to play fair and do something for the everyday people of the country for once in his miserable, lying, life think again my friend, because you’ll be better off flogging a dead donkey.

OK you have all convinced me I am staying here
Just to let you know fuel price fell this week
To have a good demo you also need a police force which will let you block roads and burn tyres as here just dont start burning cars.
|Still soon we shall have a new president and you a new prime minister things might change
By the way Greens go for 4x4 as its ease to say and spell Doing my best on the red wine lake, as its good for the heart
my other 4+4 is a real tractor but not as much fun on road

After a gloomy few hours I just realised. I think my Jan 2005 model is taxed at the lower rate. Woohoo!
it. I'm off foxhunting. Or I might gas some badgers.

Some people have quoted lists of cars that arn't 4x4s which are in this top brand etc.
Would be great if we could put together the ultimate list of all non-4x4 vehicles which have been included in this top bracket, so that every time the Beeb or any other media group or organisation says anything about "gas guzzling 4x4s", or "Chelsea tractors", or "4x4 mums" then we can blitz them over and over and over with the list until the cows (Sian Berry) come home.
