M25 M3 M4 all busy, although not desperately so. Had to drop SWMBO off at Camberley with her friend. Don't think RIAT has enough appeal Laughing

Any opinions on RIAT this year? Narpy, peteyd?

I'll start, I thought the flying was a bit subdued. Perhaps because the last time I saw a mainly military air show I worked at RAE Farnborough, and watched the flying from the opposite side of the runway to the public. Or is it because H&S restricts the display so much due to recent air show history?

I felt it was all a bit quiet this year. We normally have lots of traffic outside the house and people camped out on the verges. I didn't see quite so much as in previous years. And I agree with the flying - perhaps the cloud clover played a part and we were a bit spoiled last year...

Fri a bit of a damp squid, limited air displays, most cancelled and if did take off was a circuit of airport and land again.

Sat much better display wise, though seemed to be flying horizontally to runway which #i guessed was due to wind direction and clearing the smoke from displays.

Sun not there but seemed to have full show as predicted

Nice sight seeing the 747 escorted by Red Arrows, which we viewed driving up sun out and planes flying along valley off A419, looked quiet spectacular

Shoreham has had an impact on the UK airshows but not really from a flying perspective. Safeguards were already in place regarding flying over spectators etc. What I mean is areas that normally open their doors to campers + spotters have been restricted so attendances are down on previous years, Rhymes Farm at Fairford is a classic example of this. Right next to the runway is no longer an option after Shoreham it would appear. Big Cry

For me however, RIAT 2019 attendances were down because of the weather. RIAT is a 3 day event but if you want to see aircraft arriving / flying in before they display static only on show days, you need to arrive a few days early and make the event 5 or even 7 days long.
It was well reported the weather for the Friday would be bad, and it didn't disappoint, it pee'd down all day and this impacted the flying and the arrival of campers + spotters who stayed away.
Normal service was resumed on Saturday + Sunday however as the weather cheered up.

I agree that the flying was subdued this year. At RIAT you get almost the entire western worlds fly-boys all wanting to show off their skills in their varied aircraft, it just didn't seem to happen this year but still didn't stop me enjoying the show. Highlight of the show, probably the BA lump flying with the reds.
RIAT would make a great venue for a forum get together and camping booze up too. Thumbs Up

The BA flight with the Red Arrows and also the Italian Aerobatic Team were superb this year IMO.

I haven't been to one of these since they were local to us at Greenham where the Lighning used to do the 90 degree dogleg along the runway at what seemed then to be about 50 feet and then go straight up - should have called it 'The Earquake' Laughing
 and theeeeennn......???
