| Reversing lights - Radio turns on and no sound? |

Hi
I've noticed the reversing light on the my D3 aren't working, is this a common problem?
I've checked the bulbs and they are ok, I've heard that the XYZ sensor could be the problem but I appear to have the gear number showing in the dashboard when driving? 
Also in an attempt to fix the strange low pitched whirring noise coming from the front left of the vehicle when driving (guessing either brake calliper stuck or diff noise) I turned the radio on, the radio came on ok but I get no sound out of the speakers? I've cranked up the AMPS as far as the volume knob allows but still nothing? The car has a Karmen Harmen sounds thingy which I'm guessing is something to do with the box under the drivers seat?
Any help or pointers would be gratefully received, especially with the reversing lights as parking at night is proving interesting.
