How do you reverse pulling the gearbox neutral pull wire?

Hi

Never done it but I am aware that if I need to select neutral but the engine wont start you remove the cup holders and pull the loop of wire. This manually selects neutral within the gearbox.
My question is - nobody ever details how to reverse this process. How does the gearbox return to normal once the wire is pulled?

I think you can release the wire and then maybe it goes back to normal

Yep
my guess is that you get the engine started, cycle the gearbox and all is good. But then I'm sat on my sofa in just me pants on my third Stella....

When you pull the red lever you will see a round switch which must be turned with a coin or large screwdriver. It is this action that places the transmission in neutral. Thumbs Up

think you then need to pull the red lever up to select neutral then reverse the actions to put back in park

(pulling the lever up selects neutral not turning the switch)

Thumbs Up detailed in the handbook for future reference and correct operation Wink

Pulling the red lever up will do nothing on it's own. It's turning the switch (lock) that then releases the neutral select lever, which can then pulled with the aid of the attached red lever.

If you don't turn the switch (lock) you can't release the neutral select lever Wink

The cable/mechanism at the gearbox end is spring-loaded therefore automatically returns it to park once the release lever is cleared.
I know this as I have a body off a 65 plate at the moment and have had to fashion some cable ties and the likes to keep the gearbox released.
This may be due to persons unknown not 'releasing' the box properly, just my experience.

The loop of wire mentioned is the emergency release for the electronic parking brake which is different to the emergency neutral selector lever.
