Return to land rover

New here, but not to land rover.

Few years ago I sold my Defender puma after 3 years of fun and games. The replacement car was indeed perfect for the family but incredibly dull!

Fast forward a few years and wifey decided she wanted a galaxy instead of the tiny duster for family stuff. This left me very poor but also left a large land rover sized gap on the drive way ...

So after 5 months of meticulous searching I finally found a V8 with out LPG !

After getting her home it took me a few weeks to find time to get her in the workshops and haves good look around for all the doom that awaits me.

Found a few issues. Nothing too taxing and time will have them all resolved. Got myself an expected suspension fault. The N/S/F tyre is scrubbed on the outer edge and the tracking is to the left.

I started with the gearbox issue, gear changes were odd with tan occasional kick up the backside when shifting . Got in touch with Ian bodsworth and he came and visited me at work and carried out aegaflush and updated my bag disc too. Gear changes are now as smooth as they should be for a 14 year old motor.

Some keen eyes found me a local steal on a set of used DR wheels with tyres too !

Once again making time to fit the wheels and get 4 wheel alignment checked and adjusted.

In the mean time I've been polishing the paint. Revivng her if you will . Lots of blemishes and scratches some polished away but many remain. I removed the rear light guards and the y have clearly been on so long that they have scarred the paint. So I expect I'll be needing to refit them

First day out was to santapod and the mildly damp grass was enough to encourage me to play with the suspension šŸ˜€

The vehicle has not got a tow bar not the electrics behind the panel. I am researching the tow bar options and I quite fancy the compact design of the entreq assembly.

Any input on the item would be great as it seems to be quite rare.

I'm located in Suffolk and incorporated the major faults are dealt with will be keen to get back out and about on some lanes and days out.

Glad to be back in the green oval !

Feels good to finally have a V8.

It has also taken me a few trips to stop making the engine growl when pulling away. I started making measurements last week to make a pipe to remove the resonator šŸ˜

I bought mine a few weeks ago and haven't been able to drive it! sunroof leak, so that prompted me to start stripping the interior.

I did start my hunt wanting a HSE but fast remembered the top rule of buying land rovers.

Avoid the ones with large glass panels in the roof haha.

Seems common for the drain channels to block up. Have you tried removing the a pillar to start with ?

I haven't got that far up yet. I've been a bit busy so it is sat in the corner under a tarp. I have only stripped out all the wet bits.

I need to deal with some small areas of rust on the floors, so that involves stripping the interior first,

Then i am installing rear aircon whilst it is in bits.

Whilst it's in pieces I'll also run some cables and tidy up other wiring, maybe install a second battery, but in the rear.

I have also bought a heated wheel, so that's another install job, with it's wiring.

Somehow i need Bluetooth too, and am waiting for guidance on that.

Maybe the car will be ready for the spring!

Welcome to the V8 club Thumbs Up there is a V8 thread here somewhere as we are a low volume group in terms of issues with the vehicle Whistle there are some threads with ā€œwhatā€™s useful to do preventive maintenanceā€ kind of things, too. Searchis your friend.

Some markets didnā€™t have the sunroof by default - Iā€™ve got a HSE and 9 months of the year there is no sun (well, not quite but figuratively...) and no need for a sunroof Whistle

Mines a G4, so my sunroof gives me a great view of the underside of my roof rack.... I still love it though.

I found a cheap and affective Bluetooth fix for music, it doesn't work for calls but maybe the more expensive versions do.
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=ht...2380288710

Uses the 30 pin iPod aux cable.

I've already posted in the V8 thread. And I've researched some of the common faults. Currently I'm getting MOT prep out the way then next year is going to be dealing with any further issues and then the comfort items. It will be a while before I'm bolting on any mods.

Why would you fit the battery in the boot when the disco already has a second battery location under the bonnet ?

Capacity mainly. in the side pod I hope to get a bigger battery, and as the rear of the car is where i will mostly use the power i reduce the voltage losses. I haven't properly investigated it yet though.

Also the G4 has a tonne of crappy wiring and relays in the 2nd battery box that i have to either move or at least tidy up.

I have discovered the G4 has a split charge relay fitted under the main battery that is unused now, so that's a help.

G4 being so rare it's hard to know the difference s

Having a preinstalled split charge relay makes the job much easier and cheaper haha
