Retrofitting bluetooth and phone controls to stereo (Disco3)

Sorry if this has been answered before but I’ve not found a concrete answer via search.

I am looking at used Discovery 3s aged 2005-2008 (trying to keep the mileage lowish without paying a fortune).

If a model (GS, XS, maybe S) has the stereo with the keypad on the left - does that mean it has the bluetooth module for phone integration (I have iPhone 6 and 6S), and if it doesn’t have the steering wheel dial/hangup controls, did I read correctly that you ‘just’ have to buy the buttons and they can be added to the steering wheel?
Or, if having the advanced stereo unit doesn’t guarantee the bluetooth module is there, is it a straightforward job to fit one?

I had a Freelander 2 HSE before, then someone rear ended it and my insurers wrote it off.
Nimble as it was, the extra bit of length and the cargo length/boot space of a D3 would be helpful.

Yes, you can just swap the switch packs. They’re all interchangeable. You might need to “saw” slightly the plastic on the steering wheel to make the new switch pack (the call accept/hang up button in particular) fit.

As for the BT module.... it’s possible to add one. If you don’t have have the cell phone switch pack I doubt you have the module. You want to get a D4 BT module rather than the D3 module.

The stereo (AFAIK) needs to be the CD-465 model, the one with 6 CD changer.

You’ll also need a microphone. By default it’ll be fitted to the ceiling above the front dash where the three interior lights are. I think the loom to connect it to exists but I’m honestly not sure.

Thanks for the pointers. My usual mechanic uses a LR place for his MOTs, and has told me which one - so I’m going to give them a call tomorrow now I have a bit more to go on. I would probably get them to do the work as they should know these things inside out!
