The rotary controller (knob) does look neater, but I don't see it as an advance in user friendliness at all.
Makes a nice place to put your fish & chips when scoffing on the move.
Not that I'd do such a thing.

No problem in mine as it's just under 8 years old, mind you as on diet I can just dream about them.

You're in a rapidly diminishing club Del, can't be many from 2005/6 who still own their first D3.
In many ways, I still prefer the early D3's. They're a proper half way house between a Defender and a FFRR. I still love the "Tonka Toy" styling as well, even the full tango. They have a utilitarian look and feel to them which is all but lost now with the MY14.
I see my current D4 as a more practical, 7 seat, Range Rover. Very nice, but not exactly what I want, which the 2006 D3 HSE was.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Yep, longest I've kept a car. It'll stay til it falls apart, I peg it or she bankrupts me, whichever happens first.

I didn't see the 'vote' button but I predict a better turn-out than the last general election.

Anyone had a problem with their knob not rising on a cold am? Someone suggested it may be a software fault but more likely to be hardware I would have thought? Near enough 40 degrees South!!!

Bromide in your morning tea Rich? That would do it.
Have had my 2014 D4 for 4 weeks and gear select rotor has not risen around 3-4 times. Its pretty scary when you have started motor and are sitting at idle and there is no gear thingy to turn to put car into gear.
Have solved by stopping then restarting, but strange this issue does not seem to have been mentioned anywhere in this forum. Any help gratefully received.Near enough 40 degrees South!!!

That's a known problem. LR has given out two ServiceBulletins.
Go to your dealer, first they should try a software update, if ths doesn't help (which it mostly only does for a short period) you should advise your dealer to change the complete unit on warranty.
These are the two numbers from topix:
LTB00455v4 and SSM56817
