Retrofit / Dealer fit Xenon Headlights |
|
I'm sure some of you guys will know more than my dealer on this one.
I'm in the position where LR & my dealer are swapping my Feb 05 's' spec car which has xenons & bright pack. Now as the bright pack is standard on 06' spec and xenons aren't, and the deal I have is for a 'pre built' new car, as opposed to an order. Finding one with xenons is a problem.
Can dealers retrofit Xenons, they're saying they can't, but I don't necessarily think this is true, as there have been several posts on this issue.
If they just can't/won't, as I am a handy spanner monkey are the headlamp units the only things that need changing?, or are there wiring issues that require work for the swap.
Many thanks in anticipation

It should be a simple swap of the headlight assembly. No special re-wiring.

I did this a couple of months back. Swapped my '06 S spec halogens for Xenons and it took all of 4 minutes. No problems since then either. I checked beforehand with a LR engineer and she confirmed that the wiring harness was the same.

Many thanks, I thought they were acting like muppets.
Just out of interest where did you get you're headlamp units, and roughly how much were they.
Do you know how much they are from a dealer.
Did you notice a big difference when you had changed the units

Well the 1st one I got off eblag for the princely sum of £15 and the second from a breakers yard specialising in Land Rovers for £50. I've since learnt that I was just dammned lucky as they are as rare as the proverbial rocking horse poo at the moment...
I did ask dealer price and seem to remember a sum of £415 per unit
They are definitely more effective then standard, especially so on high beam. The only downside is the pronounced 'cut-off' at the end of the beams reach, if you understand Halogens seem to have a more gradual fade out where the Xenons just stop...
Hope that helps.

So all you need to do is swop the lamp?
Has anyone done thes?
I did see a set on ebay a while ago and thought i would need wiring etc..
As you can get xeon lights for about £155, but they are bulbs and ballsts. New lamps would be better.
