Retro Fitting Sat Nav
I have searched for some time now and have not found any comments on the possibility of retro-fitting sat nav. Lots on where to place your TomTom and a couple on problems using the system but none on fitting it after the event.
I am looking to try and find one from a scrapped SE/HSE and fit it to my S. Has anyone done this and if so is it just plug and play or do you need more than just the sreen?
Can you get the extras in the HSE to work or will it not work in conjunction with any other bits of my car?
Any help appreciated and i promise to post info and pics if I end up carrying out the retrofit.

you'll need lots of bits - MOST harness, Nav. unit, screen, GPS receiver etc. - oh, and a LR engineering code (time limited & vehicle specific) in other words, it's not worth the hassle - unless you're cozy with someone at Gaydon, it's not going to happen

Thanks for all of the replies. Does this mean it wont even work as a stand alone sat nav in the dash?

I have the GO700 which also has this feature and I agree that it is the best interface by far but I like the integrated appearance of factory fit stuff. Also I have the PTI so don't need it now.
I'm in the trows of giving My TomTom710 an integrated look. Seeing how the escutcheon I put around the unit, to fill rest of satnav cubby hole, performs being moved around in rough stuff. When down to final position etc I will install it and post pics in gallery.

This is an old question i know but as the Disco has been around a bit longer now I wondered if anyone had managed to do this yet? I don't necessarily need all the functions to work, just the navigation. Surely all this needs is the GPS antenna and a switched power source? I have 16moths to go on my lease otherwise I'd trade it in for an SE/HSE hence my want to upgrade my S.

No still wont work ..theres fiber optic cables aswell on the sat nav screen.G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Integrated Sat nav as TFC has said, is errr truely integrated. There would be no way of getting the system to partly work.
Would you not be better looking at one of the screens that fit really well and hooking that up to an aftermarket system. There is a post on here somewhere with a very close fitting screen with minimal work required to get the "look""To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

And map updates cost a bloody fortune. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

If you want an integrated unit I believe some of the Ozzies have replaced the basic radio Head unit with a Kenwood radio Sat/Nav discplay. I've not seen it in the flesh, but maybe one of the guys can PM you a link to a picture, other than that, I'd go for a TomTom fitted into the cubby whole with the LR SatNav screen normally sit.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
