Retro fit JLR's ClearSight Rear View Mirror or similar |
|
By now I guess most of us are aware of JLR's ClearSight rear-view mirror which turns into an HD monitor, so if your rear view is obscured by a full boot, you simply flick a switch and the mirror switches to displaying a live feed from a rear-facing HD camera.
The question is can this, or something similar be fitted to a D4?
My boot is always half full with a K9 cage, and luggage alongside it is often stacked high enough to obscure the view from the mirror.
I'd be happy to buy a Blackvue, NextBase or similar camera system as part of the package if necessary.
I'm sure that more than one of us must have done this already.

something like this would be very much cheaper than anything from LR

The surround camera system does the same but obviously displays it on the screen.

I had a very large dog that blocked the rear view. On my D4 I can switch on the reversing camera to see what’s going on behind me while I drive.
Not quite the same as a rear view mirror but nearly as good. Gary

That would be helpful; how please do you accomplish this?

As mentioned above you need the surround camera system or the 14MY on reverse camera (so I’m told). On mine, I go into extras and select camera or at least I would do if it wasn’t set up as a short cut on the home screen. If the 2014MY reverse camera can do it, I expect it’s the same, extras, Camera, rear.
I can’t vouch for the 2014 reverse cam method as I’ve never tried it and it’s only what I’ve been told by forum members.

I just had a curtesy evoque with this, I found it very distracting, maybe you get used to it but I didn't like it. Its strange at lights, you get a very close up of the guy in the car behind, the camera was on the shark fin, its really odd.

Same as mine, tap the screen twice in quick succession and you get the option to turn on the camera.

Nigel, start the D4, on the home screen scroll to the right by touching the > symbol. You’ll end up with 3 boxes on the screen, the middle one is marked Cameras, press that, then two small boxes will appear touch the top one marked with a camera symbol. The rear camera will be permanently on. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

It’s useful. I use it when towing, which isn’t very often, if nothing else it reminds me that I’ve got a trailer attached. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
