Restricted Performance - But no restriction
I have had my D4 for a few months, and about 5k miles. Intermittently I getting a 'Restricted Performance' message as soon as I start the car, I bet its done it 10 times randomly - but I dont have any kind of smoke, restrictions, or anything other that I can notice? Turn it off and back on then its all good.
I have had the codes read and nothing has been found, other than an old water in fuel - but this has never popped up on the dash.
I plan to have a look and drain the fuel filter this weekend to see if its got any water in it, but any other things to check?

It’s a common fault. A new fuel filter housing should sort that!

MAF sensor perhaps. If it looks like this it'll need a clean...but don't stick anything down there to do it!!!

alfamale I will check the MAF sensor, I am sure I checked that as soon as I got it - just to take a look as I was curious to see since my old D3 days...
robpenrose I didn't know the fuel filter had a housing, thought it was a spin on/off type - or do you mean the head/holder?

I get the same display occasionally when towing, when on cruise control, and when changing from downhill to uphill. No drop in performance at all. Dealer has looked at it three times and nothing appears out of the ordinary. Warning goes away and stays away on switch off and restart.
I now just treat it like the "Tailgate open" type warnings.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

I had that. It's one of the sensors relating to the fuel filter housing. I put up with it for a while (about a year) and then got it fixed properly. Indi charged me £150 for the job (parts and labour).

Presumably if the computer senses water ( whether there is any or not) it will go into restricted performance .

Thats the thing, the performance is still the same, i just get the error..
I am now thinking about a possible battery issue, as my time FBH is not working, so perhaps they could be linked.....

The reason I left it a year before doing anything, was precisely because despite the "restricted performance" warning, there was no actual restriction. The car worked fine apart from the yellow triangle on the dash!

I am confident that its water in fuel causing the issue - I reset the codes last week, but got the warning this morning and then checked the codes again and showed fuel in water, cleared the code and the warning went.
