Similar thing has just happened to my D4. Wife was driving it yesterday on a dual carriageway and it started juddering and the red triangle came on and it went into limp mode. She managed to pull over safely and stop the engine.
Turning it back on only the amber warning light came on and the engine wasn't making any funny noises (I was on the phone with her by this point).
Turning it off again and leaving it a while before turning it back on and there were no warnings. She then successfully drove it home without any issue and did go above 50mph for certain periods of time.
So I check all the same things listed above? I have it booked into LR for Thursday but they are charging £180 just to look at it. I've ordered a cheap fault code reader of amazon so should be able to see what the fault codes are later today.

your symptoms are different to mine. I had no judder and the car's performance was severely limited. Each time I started the engine (even after being left for several hours) the fault message appeared immediately.
The fault codes would be the best place to start. Good luck! Bri

Its just happened again. Engine cut out whilst driving with loads of warning lights come on and "gearbox fault" which doesn't sound good at all. Definitely sounds different to OP's issue.
Restarting the engine after a while and the wife was able to drive off again with no errors/warnings.
This is sounding likes its going to be a costly problem!
**EDIT ** Going to start a new thread as my issue is unrelated.

The thought of needing to get a new car was weighing on my mind. I couldn’t think what I would replace a D4 with. Thankfully I get to enjoy mine a little longer! 👍
I've a similar issue, would you mind sharing how much it cost to have it fixed by the dealer..? I have seen the MAF sensors for around £100 (or less) so wondering if I should do it myself or let the dealer do it.
cheers

It was around £320 including £50 to read codes and diagnose. I posted a link to a YouTube video on a separate thread this week which explained how to change the MAF. Doesn’t look difficult but you’ll need to be able to reset the fault I think, with IID I guess? Bri

Thanks, not a bad price. I'll give it a go myself as I have a code reader and resetter.
Cheers

Good morning folks. My 2006 tdv6 with 95k on the clock will run fine for ages but when i try to accelerate off of a roundabout or to pass traffic it goes into limp mode with NO lights on the dashboard, no smoke no rattles or bangs. The MAF was showing a constant 4g/s whatever the demand on the engine so i have fitted a new OEM part and it is still showing MAF 4g/s. The system resets when the car is turned off and the key removed.
The turbo actuator is easily moved with a coat hanger wire and i can hear it click when the ignition is switched on.
Had 2 fault codes P0234 & P0046.
Can anyone offer any advice with this issue as it is driving me mad!
Thank you
Jon

Jon, just to rule out the problem I had - check that you have fuse 17 in place in the main fuse box under the bonnet AND if it is there that it has not blown. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Hi Barny. Thanks for the suggestions they are greatly appreciated. The fuse is there and looks ok but i am going to exchange it. When the fault occurs the dash says “special services not available “ with no warning lights whatsoever. I have been out using it in sport/command and it revs freely and pulls perfectly without issue and would exceed the speed limit with ease and there is no smoke whatsoever. It seems as though it only has the fault when in “D” and you try to accelerate and even then there is no smoke. Also found that the exhaust gas temp sensors are showing “0” degC.
Starting to wonder if it is an annoying wiring fault?

Update. Swapped several fuses for new ones even though the originals look ok. Just done c12 miles and no issues so what the heck is happening i dont know. I will monitor and update as things evolve in the hope that it may help others.

Jon, your symptoms were the same as mine without fuse 17. Have you checked the fuse you took out for continuity as that could confirm the root cause rather than worry that it might at some point fail again. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Hi Barni. Checked the fuses with multi meter and they test ok. Maybe dusty contacts in the fuse box itself? The car is still running perfectly and the MAF is still showing 4g/s constant.
