I had noticed the odd puff of grey smoke on hard acceleration so thought I would clean the MAF. Took it off and wiped off some oil and gunge and cleaned "inside" it. Refitted and started the car up and now have a restricted performance warning. Have I triggered the fault by disconnecting the sensor or have I somehow broken the sensor while cleaning?
Thanks

Possibly, but have you tried unplugging & plugging the cable from the sensor a couple of times just to see if it's just a dodgy connection? Also a hard reset might not go a miss.

If you have a diagnostic tool with live data you could check it that way. Or you could try a DMM:

Thanks for the replies. It's the sensor under the plastic engine cover that is secured by the torx screw that I cleaned. Is that not the maf?
Sensor wiring has been unplugged and refitted a number of times. Battery has been disconnected for 10mins but still the same fault.
Looked at the various diagnostic options that are available and can't decide which offers best value for money!

No, that's the MAP sensor.
How did you clean it? Did you shove something up the hole?

If anything has been rammed up the hole you could have wrecked it.

The MAP sensor diaphragm is incredibly delicate. You are not the first on the forum to make this mistake.
They are eye-wateringly expensive but last time I looked it was cheaper to buy the complete plastic housing than the sensor on its own (such is the way with mad LR parts prices since the hike).Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
Sounds like ive wrecked it then! Though I was gentle when cleaning but obviously not gentle enough! Thankfully I renewed the warranty a few weeks ago so it will hopefully be covered.
Noticed the engine cover has also cut a nice groove into the radiator hose so that will need replaced too!
Thanks for the help all.
Is the iid tool worth the significant extra over the bbs fcr? I don't have any retrofits that need activated in the ccf so not sure if I will benefit from that feature.

FCR is very limited and very poor value for money - time and technology have orphaned it.
Tools such as the IID you mention do more than read codes. With access to live data you have a better means to see the root cause rather than an unexplained code. I grant you that CCF edits are not everyone's cup of tea, and I avoid them myself wherever possible, but code readers need live data to be really useful.
Example - You have a gearbox problem where it refuses to change up. Is this really a gearbox problem?
After a quick drive in a straight line you notice 1 wheel speed sensor does not match the other 3. This has triggered corner mode in the gearbox and is not a fault with the box. You fit a new speed sensor as located by live data and an apparently expensive problem becomes a relatively cheap and easy fix.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
Thanks Robbie, I thought the live data might be useful. Unfortunately I only have an old iPhone and iPad so will need to see about upgrading one of those first to make most benefit of the iid tool.

If the D3 and D4 MAP sensors are the same, I have a (good) spare one in the shed My D3 Build Thread

I see that Steve stocks them too at a price well below what others have paid direct with LR. When not prodded they are a reliable part so a 2nd hand one makes sense too it the parts are interchangeable with the D4. My microcat access is 404 so someone else will need to check.
