Restricted mode with no previous symptoms

Wife got into the car today and it instantly went into restricted mode (red triangle) with engine management light. No noticed issues when she started it or in the previous days/weeks.

Got the RAC out and then plugged in for the diagnostics and said there were two faults (altho I didn't see them or the codes):

1. Mass Airflow B
2. EGR Valve

He tried cleaning the MAF sensors and resetting and then it returned with just one fault:

1. Mass airflow (think he said P010D)

His opinion is that its the EGR valve but could also just be the MAF sensor. But at this point it needs to be recovered to a garage.

I've had a read on the forums and seen the cracked inlet manifold issue but I see no evidence of oil under the cover.

What are peoples thoughts? Thanks.

I've just received the RAC report and it has the error codes on it:

DTC: P010B,Mass or volume air flow "B" circuit range/performance
DTC: P010D,Mass or Volume Air Flow "B" Circuit High

Maf sensors can be swapped around on a D4 so you can see if it is a sensor fault by swapping them round to see if the issue follows. You can also clean them with MAF Sensor cleaner to see if that resolves the issue

If I do that, will I be able to tell if there is any change without a diagnostics tool?

So I swapped the MAF sensors over today and made no difference, which was expected as I don’t have a diagnostic tool.

I did drive the car round the block in restricted mode and it sounded/felt like it was running fine apart from no hard acceleration or ability to go above 30mph.

So the car was recovered to the dealership as the nearest indie was closed last week and we really needed the car back in working order.

They carried out a diagnostics, checked wiring and disk a smoke test and determined that it was just one of the MAF sensors. All repaired and back in action now. So glad as it wasn’t anything more serious particularly as we were looking to upgrade to one of the new MY21 D5’s in the near future!
