Replacing the rear seatbelts. (Disaster struck)
If you think you've had a bad day....
18 months and the dogs have been no trouble. Dog bars in back so they normally jump in, lay down or lick the windows.... Until today.
Seatbelts destroyed (both sides!!!!). I will be buying a big dog cage and will also need to replace the belts. Just got a pair from a breaker I've used in the past without issue so hopefully they'll be ok.
I'll do some searching to find out how to replace them without setting the airbags off π. Tips appreciated.
Ideally need a schematic or something.
We do use the rear seats quite regularly. Obvs won't be using them til I fix this

I just didn't imagine they had it in them. Anyway spent a while this morning trying to work out how to take the back end apart. Online PDF manuals are useless. I'll wait til the new belts arrive and start to strip her. Ordered some trim removal tools and a mixture of clips just to be safe. Suppose I'll need a torque wrench too π. Oh well..

Been there, had that! Blasted mut......
If I remember correctly (and it was a few years ago) they are actually quite easy to do once you have the trim off the sides and the D pillar and it does come off quite easily. I think that you also will need to remove the side bits of the boot floor.
There are only 3 bolts for the belts. Just remember to thread the upper D pillar trim on before you fit the last bolt.
You also need to make sure you have the right belts as I think that they are handed to fit left/right

Thanks, that's helpful. yes I was eyeing up the floor section. See the two cargo d rings bolted down so hope just need to remove them but we'll see. Did you get a dog cage? So many choices there too.

The worst bit about the floor bits is releasing the latch for the 3rd row seat base. They are quite easy to break. I'm not sure how you best get them out. Other than that it is just the 2 lashing points to remove I think.
And, yes we did get a cage for the car (he has always had one at home so is very happy in one). We actually bought one of the flight type boxes as he used to pull stuff like coats through the bars. The more solid plastic box stopped that. The only issue is that it tends to roll over so we lashed it to the lashing eyes which solved that.

Thanks. I'll go gently. Square cage seems more sensible with the boxy boot than the typical sloped car cages. Need quite a tall one or they won't be able to sit up. I'll take a look at those. Cheers.

Why would replacing the seatbelts set off the airbags?

I see, donβt worry, the airbag unit wonβt be affected by gaining access to the seatbelt. If you want to be sure, just make sure the cars asleep or disconnect the battery and wait 10 minutes.
