Replacing the fuel filler flap control cable
My fuel filler flap failed to open recently while I was at the pump trying to fill up with diesel. I didn't realise there was another way of releasing the locking mechanism, so I forced the flap open using a screwdriver as a lever as I needed fuel to get home. This caused parts of the latch unit to come away, but I have now fitted them back and the filler flap latch does still open and close the fuel filler flap when the flap is manually pushed. I haven't replaced the latch unit with new parts yet.
Today I located the fuel flap release actuator cable inside the compartment inside the vehicle where the lifting jack is stored, and I pulled the cable to reveal the end which presumably attaches to the latch to lock it when the vehicle is locked. I don't know whether this cable now needs to be replaced? The end of the cable has a black plastic fitting which looks as though it might be broken (see photo attached)?
I am now not sure how to re-fit the end of this cable now that I have removed it as I can't get access to where the cable originally was attached to the back of the fuel filler latch mechanism. Do I need to remove any internal panels to make access easier?
If the fuel flap release actuator cable needs to be replaced, can anyone advise how to do this and if any internal panels need to be removed to facilitate this?
Thanks to any advice offered.

The first thing to do is see if the cable moves when locking and unlocking the car. No point refitting otherwise !
If it does move and the end is broken I was able to do a bodge repair by cutting some of the outer sheath off the cable. Cut off the length that goes into the flap. 8mm?
Also need to remove the larger bit on the end.
Worth ago maybe before ordering new
Refitting. You just put your arm thru the jack hole I think. And push in
