Replacement of Air Conditioning Compressor: Repair or recon? |
|
I had to replace my air conditioning compressor after 100 000km. I am out of warranty and LR cannot repair the unit, it must be replaced was the diagnosis. The aircon leaked gas from the "where the piston goes into" the unit.
Despite having bought and having installed the complete new unit , LR Cape Town at first wanted to keep the old part, argueing it was a "core" unit that had to go back to LRSA (for reconditioning and repair ... ... strangely at variance with having to replace it).
I resisted and took the unit from the delaler. I wish to see why the unit had failed and want see if it can be reconditioned.
Any ideas as to someone in ZA that would be able to asses and recondition my now spare unit?
ps what is the "LR core" of a airconditioning compressor? "None of Nature's landscapes are ugly so long as they are wild"

LR SA........thieving barstuards.
You bought a new compressor the old one is still yours. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

not so serious -- there was a code on the aircon compressor that tells them to return it for recon as a "core" item.
My question really relates to why it started to leak after 100 000km.
Anyone out there that had an aircon compressor replaced/ repaired? "None of Nature's landscapes are ugly so long as they are wild"

If replaced under warranty I could understand but if the car is purchchased it is yours. If you buy a compressor it is yours. Unless you are only paying for an exchange unit. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Replaced last year under warranty, bearing went on 2008, with 50000km. Was working fine just meat saw noise ruined the tdv6 engine noise. Obvoiusly LR took it sent to big shed somewhere! A few mods... and keeping it all running...Faultmate MSV2

after almost 5 y & 120k km
I got leakage, & aircon compressor burned
then aircon compressor replaced and still not working, it's 4.4 V8 and guys at the garage told me that control panel is likely faulty, so they replaced the panel and... aircon still doesn't work

Control Panel?
Try a new compressor relay (it's under the bonnet in front of the battery)? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

at least that's what they told me:
that in petrol V8 there is a separate control panel for aircon compressor unlike diesel engine
no they say maybe it's BeCM?
but wil 2check withe the garage if both relay & fuses are ok | Il boit pour oublier qu'il vit

AFAIK the air suspension system is the same for both.
Ask waht part number they replaced. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Oops That would explain my confusion. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Either the compressor goes or the system leaks. They can check for leaks -once - with UV gas but thereafter it is difficult. The explanation of the control panel seems not likely. The system that leaks also ought not to not result in a "burning" or overheating of compressor. The leaked from the compressor in my case, but the system was fine otherwise. Perhaps the gas is from the "repaired"/ replaced unit which happened after thet had first repaired and regassed the compressor -- then the leak fromcoprssor was fixed and unit replaced. Good luck!
