Replace failed LED in rear light unit?
Hi,
I just noticed that one of the LEDs in my D4 rear lights has failed. I have my Swiss MOT in a couple of months and I think this will be a failure point. Has anyone replaced a single LED? Is this feasible? I ask only because to get another complete unit to Switzerland will involve the post and first time I tried that one unit was damaged!
Plan B is finding a UK Nearside D4 rear light and a forum member happy to package this to survive an apocalypse!
Thanks,
Andy

If you can open it up without damage i'm sure you could replace an LED.

Not sure... but if they do I would need to take another half a day off work to get to the test centre and pay to take the test again.
My understanding is that this would be a failure in the UK. Though you would think that with so many LEDs, losing one or two should be acceptable.
I will take the light unit out this week and evaluate

Another option is find a local fellow D4 owner that will lend you his fully functioning rear light for the test.

or put tape over some each side in pattern so it looks like they're meant to be off ?

Out of interest, would D3 lights work in a D4? I struggled to give away my D3 rears, might be a very cheap option just to get through the test, or an additional pool of lights to borrow from.

I am not sure on cars? but on the trucks so long as at least 50 percent of the leds work, that is a pass?

This is for DRLs in the UK, I did not look any further as it waffles on page after page, note (i0 and (ii).
