repairing 3.0 with cam chain broken anyone had much look?

Hi I have a d4 3.0 2011 running on only 1 bank of cylinders. Anyone had any look repairing? Suspected cam timing chain problem. Can heads be taken off with body on? does it normally damage pistons and valves when this happens? was running perfect then went to start and only running on 1 bank wont rev stalls after 10 seconds running.

Had cam chain fail on a D3, fixed at garage. body off, both heads off to check damage. Think damage to a couple of valves on one head as you would expect, heads were sent to be checked, then new valves on both heads ( perhaps overkill ?? ) new glow plugs, new chains/tensioners etc. One replacement cam because the lobes had spun around the original camshaft. Cannot remember about followers etc.

No known damage to pistons
This was 40,000 miles ago approx.
