removing the rear plastic bumper |
|
hi,
I fitted the towbar electrics last week, and although they work and the cable runs avoid the massive damper weights, i cant get the push in clips into the top of the steel bumper rail. Are there any instructions as to how to take off the plastic bumper cover so i can do a proper job???
cheers

Don't bother, I don't think anyone has managed to get all the clips in yet but there's been no issues with the cable moving that I'm aware of The End

Agree, I also couldn't get all the clips to fit!
Don't really think it's worth the hassle of removing the bumper cover.
Do the best you can when routing the cable and you should have no problems. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Hi
Ordered the maxxraxx off their website (4 bikes, trailer board hanger and garage wall mount) and had a phone call from the fitter (the towbar company Bournemouth) in 48rs to set the appointment. Maxxraxx delivered the kit to the fitter, he turned up promptly and fitted it in 2 hours.
He did say that the swanneck was a different radius to the ones he seen before and he thought he might have to mount it so that i could use the rack but not tow at the same time, but he phoned maxxraxx and they said it was ok and advised him how to fit it so that i can do both.
He did the number plate for the trailer board as well (needed to see my V5 and licence).
Only minor gripe was that the wall mount bracket didnt come with any fitting guidance or recommendation on bolts
overall, very happy with the product and fitting.
cheers

thanks for the info Dave
u confident to tow straight away with the bike rack fixed?
we'll probably be taking the rack loaded with bikes post fitting straight to tow trailer & worried about a drama regarding enuff clearance around swan neck with corners etc.
would welcome guidance on testing this versustaking a flyer.....?

hi,
I dont need to tow at the moment (dont have anything to tow!!) but didnt want to be limited if I need to in the future., so cant help on that I'm afraid.
Fitted the wall bracket in the garage wall and it's great, the whole assembly hangs on the wall, with the bikes on it and the swanneck hanging off the bottom - needed heavy duty fixings into the brickwork!! The end result is everything is up off the floor, accessible and tidy!!
cheers

Interesting, you always read these things after you have done the job. Although I am from a dealer I have never done the job myself before and on a Sunday there is no-one to ask.... Well, following the instructions I could only get a few of the clips in holes until I reached the mass damper weight. I then made the choice to remove the bumper to get the top clips in. This wasn't too bad as I managed to get the near side off by removing various clips and screws (and a bit of a tug). I could then access the top of the metal bumper. My car is a LHD G4 so maybee not standard but there were two clips and no holes in the metal bar. After a bit of drilling I managed to fit the clips and ru through the wiring and re-build. This took quite some time (3 hrs)and I'm still not sure if I have done this correctly, I will check in the morning, It all works though and looked as if it wouldnt chaffe etc!
