Removing hand brake cables from back plate
HI,
I am in the middle of removing the hand brake cable to allow strip down of the car. I've got the disk off, brake shoes off, etc. All good. Next task was to remove the cables:
Undid the stuoopid plastic nut:
Then wriggled the cable out:
But the cable does not come out because of the white plastic insert (which you can see down the hole in the above picture). It looks like this on the brake shoe side of the back plate (the other side of the car shown):
I gave the cable a pull and the white plastic insert collapsed in on its self into the penetration through the back plate - cable still not out and the plastic thingy is probably gubbed! As the cables were OK this is some what frustrating.
How are you meant to do this? tips? experiences - all welcome.
Thanks,

Heat, soak, heat, soak!
There is actually very little engagement between the EPB cable sheath and the back plate.
Mole grips around the steel end of the cable, keep wiggling and heating!
Not much else you can do.
Edit!! read the original post properly!
The plastic sleeve should have stayed on the cable. Can you poke it out with a thin screwdriver?Richard

rrhool,
Thanks for confirming it should come out with the cable. A poke with a screw driver was doing nothing when I tried last night.
I'll try pushing it out with a small deep socket from the other side when it stops raining like its autumn.

I also mangled the plastic insert. Thinking of fabricating another insert, but is it really necessary? I'm curious how things worked out.
