Removal of rear brake disks |
|
Does anyone know how to remove the rear disks on a Discovery 3? I can't figure out how to back off the drum brake (used for the hand brake) sufficiently to enable me to get the disk off. Just releasing the hand brake does not do the job. I suspect it is something to do with the little plastic plug in the outer face of the disk but I can't see anything obvious to tweak through the hole.
Thanks
Patrick

Welcome Pmanuel. Are you having park brake trouble? have you seen the threads on here regarding PB issues, and have you voted in the survey.
I ave never removed my disks myself, the dealer has always fixed the PB when its gone wrong. I believe there is a ratchet adjuster and and allen bolt somewhere. I think that the ratchet will be at the top or the bottom of the shoes, accessible by the rubber bung.
Good luck

Assuming you have the wheels, caliphers and mountings removed, turn the discs until the small inspection hole opposite the retaining screw is in the one o'clock position on the drivers side then turn the adjuster wheel (visible through hole) downward to release the hand brake ( about 8 clicks). The passenger side gets the hole about seven o'clock and turns upwards. Disc should then pull straight off.

Thanks for the help chaps. The disks were replaced on Sunday without any drama. It's a doddle when you know what to do!
