Removal of driver's armrest

OK, so one of my kids has broken the drivers armrest such that it doesn't support the weight of my arm anymore. I need to repair or replace it but I can't get it off the seat.

I've searched back through the forum but most references seem to be to D3 armrests on which there appears to be a bolt cover and torx screw? The parts diagram for the D4 also seems to indicate a torx screw but on my armrest I can't see anything to undo or uncover. Before I start unstitching the leather can anyone give me an indication of what I need to do? I've fully unwound the tensioner already and held at 45 degrees and pulled and wobbled but no joy Big Cry

Thanks!

They can be very tight, it might just be the locating peg ( it’s a biff pin ) has come out and just needs knocking back in, once you have the arm off.

Flack Thumbs Up

OK, thanks Flack, so just keep pulling? And possibly try to apply some suitable leverage?

Blimey, I got my pad spreading fork out and applied some serious leverage against the seat but the armrest's not going anywhere, do I just apply more muscle or is there a secret? Does the arm need to be at a particular angle? It feels very uncomfortable putting that much pressure on it!

You don’t have an after market leather cover on the armrest by any chance? I saw one on a D3 and it looked like genuine but it covered the bolt cover

I don't think so, but interesting thought. It came from a dealer at only 2 years old. It doesn't look like a cover but I'll check...

I’m guessing it was one of these covers or similar. Looking at the picture this one covers the bolts

That is exactly what they look like!! I haven't had a chance to have a look yet but you may have solved the mystery!

Brilliant! Between you, you both nailed it! It was a cover (I've no prior experience of these armrests as the D3 didn't have them). I managed to unpeel it (there was a lot of glue) and undo the two screws holding the top of the armrest after removing which I could see that the biff pin needed hammering back in place. In the end a 5 minute job! Now i just need to salvage the cover...
