Remote Control for Timed Climate |
|
Hello, does anybody know, for the Discovery 4, how far the remote control for the timed climate reaches, i.e., if I am in the house and the car is 30-50m parked away and I know that I will leave the house in 5 minutes time - can I already pre-heat the car via the remote, despite the distance in conjunction with house and garage walls? Many thanks!

ISTR its about a mile or a km one or the other
Yes you can pre-heat or ventilate the cabin....but you'll need a bit more than 5 minutes to get warmth 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

thank you; but if I order the remote option from my dealer I can safely assume that it comes with antenna and receiver, correct? Otherwise it would not be good for anything

Don't order from the dealer as it will cost you hundreds of pounds....contact someone like Geoff or Wiggs via this forum and they will supply and fit for a lot lot less....also the additional remotes can be obtained via ebay for £19!!!..

Had the same Webasto kit on my old VW Touareg and, with the car in the Long Stay car park at Birmingham Airport, could switch it on and off from the airport lounge!
Therefore, shouldn't be a problem just a few metres away!

In fairness, the airport lounge has a window with clear line of sight to the car park but it is, nevertheless, quite a long distance away!
The only snag I found with my VW was that (unlike the D4) there was no low voltage cut-out. It was an after market fitment, whereas factory models had a second battery in the boot when the FBH was specified. Consequently, when I set it running when coming back through Customs, I arrived back to a nicely defrosted car but one that only just managed to start!
The other nice thing about the remote is that you can set the running time with the fob. The timed climate function on the D4 only gives 20 minutes running time, which doesn't seem long enough to get any warm air through - I suspect that I will need the heated screen as the winter draws on. With my old VW, I set the heater at 30 minutes, after which time fairly warm air was coming through and all the windows would be defrosted.
I will see how the timed climate function works out but might invest in the remote fob it transpires that it's not up to much.

Put it to the test at the weekend....was up in Aviemore -3c and we were about to check out,so decided to have a go...our room was at the back of the hotel, car was parked at the front, a long way off on the opposite side of the hotel,at the far side of the car park.....no problem 8)
Biggest challenge was trying not to look smug in front of the guy with the Orkney D4 parked ahead of us waiting for his screen to clear (didn't see a forum sticker,so serves him right ) "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
