Remap/Tune & Insurance

Hi All,

I am considering a remap or tune or whatever - how has it affected your insurance.

Does it go up by much or is it one of THOSE situations??? Whistle

Cheers.

I understand where you are coming from, but i will make the following comment (not directly to you, but all who have similar thinking):

You buy a c£40k car and put a £600 remap on it, and then want to quibble about <£100 per annum uplift in insurance, which will give you 100% insurance cover. Is it really worth risking your insurer finding out you have modded your car after you have an accident and declaring your policy void due to failure to declare modifactions. If this means you are £00,000's out of pocket, and struggle to get insurance in future, is it really worth trying to save pennies? Thumbs Up

Tell them.
For all the above reasons. £100 isn't a lot of money in the scheme of things for peace of mind. It''s a tank of diesel.

Made no difference to my policy. However am now renewing and doing the inevitable search and found if I put a mod in then so many insurers won't then quote. I've removed the mod from the search to see the best prices. Hopefully they will then do a reasonable quote when I tell them about it. Question
Nothing to do with the mod but amazed the current insurer quotes about £200 less than the renewal. Evil or Very Mad

NFU Direct wanted "30-40% uplift" when I asked about it - wouldn't give me an actual quote till I'd had it done, it seems. Will be interesting to see what they say when I tell them it's morphing into a D4 - I suspect it won't make much odds, despite it ending up with the same power as the remapped D3!

I also advise that you tell your insurers if you have any modifications done to your car weather it be tuning or different size wheels etc etc.

BUT, what happens if you buy a car that is second and and for some reason its already tuned and you dont know Smile

I informed mine, but no increase due to 17years no claims they say. But as a guess if you were not to tell them and the assessor finds out, that aint good. Its too much money to worry about an oversight/or choose not to tell

Interesting

NFU are my insurer and the tune (BAS) did not add a penny to my insurance!

Mine just asked me was it a performance enhancement, to which I stated its for economy and driveability of a landrover with the aerodynamics of a breeze block Laughing

No charge Thumbs Up
