Remap advice

Morning all,

Am after some advice from you knowledgeable folk; I am contemplating getting my discovery remapped. I’ve never had a car remapped before so not sure what the process is hence was hoping to get some opinions off you guys that maybe have already done this?
Thanks in advance

I wanted to do mine when I bought it new in 2010 but Pete https://bellautoservices.co.uk/ never put them on sale but he did develop it for and use it himself. I cant remember the exact reason but I know it was a difficult one to program in the first place.

With the slim possibility of having a snapped crankshaft on the engine I decided its best not to stress the engine any more so I have managed without.

Embarassed I stand corrected, I just checked https://bellautoservices.co.uk/store/disco...2014-3-0l/ and Pete is selling them now. Very Happy

I don’t want anything crazy but was hoping it would help make the turbo lag a little better and hopefully a little better mpg also

Have a word with Pete and he will advise you. He did developed the map in 2010 and but did not put them on sale for a few years which is why I did not know they were available.

P.S you will see lots of posts on here for him.

Following this post as I've also got that itch! I've just come from a D2 v8 and although I love the additional torque in the 2.7 D3, it's missing 'something'. Might be (definitely is) the lag, the lack of ACE and the sound. And I'm getting the same MPG as well Shocked , though that'll probably improve when I stop playing with lauch control techniques Very Happy .

I’ve moved from a 2.2ltr awd Range Rover Evoque and the turbo lag on this was terrible, to the point where it was almost dangerous. The discovery is no where near as bad as this but think it could still do with a little extra for faster response.
I don’t tow anything but I’m getting to that age (aheeeem!) where a caravan sounds like a good idea so am thinking the extra power/torque will help towards towing also.....maybe?

Was it quite a noticeable difference? Is bodsy a person or a garage !? (Excuse my ignorance but I’m the new boy-lol) - I’m guessing you have to take it in to their garage for the remap to be carried out or is it a mobile kind of service?

had mine done by Alive.
it pulled smoothly from tickover all the way to 3500rpm+ and was very very rapid especially in sport mode.
it made for a much smoother, much more refined drive with no hesitation or turbo lag issues.

My remap was not done on a rolling road, which would have made for a more bespoke tune tailored to my specific car. It was done on the bench but Alive know what they are doing and it was an incredible result.

Rough specs for an 8 speed 255bhp SDV6 are 305bhp/415lb ft c. 600Nm/7.0s 0-60mph which is the same as the Range Rover Sport with the same engine and drivetrain so isn't overly stressing the components.

I also had my 8 speed 2016 done by Bodsy with a Pete Bell map. I hadn't realised that it was available for the 8 speed and isn't advertised as such on Pete's website. I only knew as Bodsy offered it as he was visiting to carry out a gearbox flush anyway.

I wouldn't have bothered as I was quite happy with the performance as it was, however, it makes an enormous difference to driveability and it is quick enough to be a fun drive now. Brakes haven't been improved though, so I need to bear in mind that 2.7 tonnes takes quite a bit of stopping.

Decision made-lol-I have booked it in on Saturday afternoon by a local company to me. I think they do the “alive” map....is this just a case of the software they use to remap!?

Alive are a reputable tuning company based in Louth, Lincolnshire but they have appointed garages around the country who can apply the remap.
For the D4 im 99% sure you need to take the ECU out as its not possible to remap one via the OBD port.
