I don't have pictures, but I fully removed the (useless) alarm sounder and then pushed all other modules to back of the box. You need to unmount everything and remove the couple of items that are also encased in plastic covers but it fits relatively easily once all that is done MY2008 D3 - It got me hooked...gone
MY2012 D4 - It kept me hooked...gone
MY2007 D3 - Mid-Life crisis toy continues driving me to bankruptcy...
MY2018 "D5" Si6 - But is it a "true" LR...discuss...but now gone
Back in a D4 with a lot of extras....

Clamp
Glad this has cropped up. I have a 2nd battery to fit as well. Is the battery clamp a std LR part and what do the threaded bars screw to? Is there a battery tray to go in? ThanksDiscovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch π

Thanks chaps
Was your alarm sounder still located in the same place behind the ECU Del?
Charlie - Yes it's a standard LR battery clamp but from a left hand drive vehicle. The threads are already in place so you just need the clamp and two bolts, that's all.

This is what I followed when doing it
Clearing D4 aux battery tray
________________________________________
Here's what I did to relocate the control modules occupying the D4 aux battery tray.
The transfer case ecu was removed from its plastic cover. The ecu is still unsealed same as in the D3 and the cover only prevents dust or water from spilling onto the ecu but not from entering the cover from the bottom. The glow-plug ecu was unbolted from its metal bracket. Both the plastic bracket/cover and the metal one were not re-used.
The alarm horn bracket was temporarily removed and the short horn bracket removed from the main bracket. The wings on the main bracket were flattened (more or less) and an unused bolt stud was cut-off.
The TC ecu bolts directly to the flattened horn bracket using existing holes. 2 bolts and nuts are required.
The horn is bolted under the lower brake line bracket bolt using one of the longer bolts from the discarded plastic TC ecu bracket, along with a spacer between the short horn bracket and the brake line bracket giving clearance to the turned-up edges of the brake line bracket.
The main horn bracket now with the TC ecu attached is refitted to its original position. Some additional insulation tape was used on the wires close to the connectors to prevent possible chafing on the metal bracket.
The glow-plug ecu is bolted through the hole in the engine side of the box where an unused white plastic clip was fitted. It requires a washer.
The large harness connector was temporarily unplugged to remove twist, then the harnesses and connector cable-tied into a group.
The brake lines from the modulator were rotated upwards a little by very slightly loosening the nuts as 1 pipe intruded into the battery space.
The plastic ribs at the bottom front of the tray were removed using an angle grinder. The plastic spacer along the engine side lower edge will also have to be removed to get clearance for a 175mm wide battery.

I wrapped and sealed all the bits that were in the way into a thick watertight bag and folded it back into the bulkhead void. No cutting of anything to fit the yellow top or cables Reversed procedure prior to sale

Sounds simple enough, I reckon I may be able to manage that!!

2nd battery
Hi, I have just finished moving all the bits tonight. I discovered that you can move the horn and bracket back and closer to the inner wing and still pick up a threaded hole at the back. I extended the bracket at the front with a bit of steel, puddle welded to the original bracket. That took care of the horn.
I the made two more brackets up out of steel plate and picked up off the two threaded holes again. These I used to mount the transmission ecu.
Re siting The glow plug relay actually worked really well as there was a bolt sticking throught the side of the battery box near to the servo. The glow plug relay mounted exactly onto that in the same way as the original factory fit bracket.
What facilitated all of this was that I took all of the plastic protection off the wiring, then sorted the routings, once done I refitted new plastic protection to the new wiring runs.
I do have a question though about the transfer box ecu. How do you go about protecting it after you have taken it out of its plastic cover.
I was thinking of casting a new chopped strand and resin cover to give it some new protection.Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch π

TRANS ECU
Ok so I have done a bit of research on here as to D3 transmission ecu problems. Prompted by a couple of warnings about corrosion.
Having had a good look at my ecu I can see that it is the same as the D3, I can also see that it is not actually a sealed unit and the crimping at the side leave's gaps into the interior.
There are a couple of marked differences between the D3 and D4 locations. To start with on the D3 it is mounted with the plugs to the top, D4 has the plugs to the bottom. The plugs all fit into what could be described as a plastic reservoir, once water gets in it would just sit there in the D3.
D3 found on here.

D4 ecu, its out of its location but it mounts with the plugs to the bottom
The location of the D3 is below the scuttle in the primary battery compartment and on the fire wall, so water could track to it.
D3 found on here
The the D3 had a plastic water shield on 3 sides only, the D4 has a box type plastic cover that encases it on all but the connections, giving it much better protection, water could only run uphill to get into the D4 where as it could run downhill to get in the D3 Also as it stands alone upright in the spare battery box there is nothing for water to track along to it.
D4 all alone, found on here.
I cannot find any evidence of other people having reported a problem after they moved the gubbins for the 2nd battery on a D4 which is a good sign. If you take off the cover but seal the openings with self amalgamating tape you mimic the cover for waterproofing, then locate it in a stand alone position water cannot track down to it, mount the connectors at the bottom and the resevoir's cannot fill. I can conclude that it wont have any problems in the future.
New location and waterproofed.
So much for the theory, real world may be different BUT for now it makes me feel much much better.Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch π
