| Reduced Traction & Startup noise |

Stuck away from home just now and missus said there is a problem with my D3. 2006 SE
Code flashes up on ignition Reduced traction, then when attempting to start has a Whiney noise 
I do have a code reader which my good lady doesn't know how to use. 
Is there any advice or similar issues as to what it may be??
Other notes.
Car was never started up during the big chill for 2 days. i had a look at other threads suggesting battery problem? until i'm home cant give any more clarity on the symptoms any help or information as always gratefully received  Why does every page of the manual have fingerprints?
