REDEX
I would like to start a debat - "on running REDEX in the DC3 V6 TDI".
We have 2 discos - both purchased new, the one here is a Diesel V6 HSE auto and has now covered 43,000.
Ever since day one, I have always put in Redex in to the tank (being 95 litres - I have put in 2 measures instead on the 1 that is recommended on the blue bottle. (purchased from Halfords £11)
I have found that the engine always runs quiter and tends not to blow smoke out when run hard. (its been chipped)
Every now and again, I leave out the Redex treatment and see how the MPG fairs.
results are:
1. with redex I get 28/29 MPG
2. without redex I get 24/25 MPG
Last week the car had its first MOT - the tester was surprized to see the Smoke Meter / Opacity average measure was 0.92 (1/m) when the test limit was 3.00 (1/m)
So the debat is:
Has other D3 owners who use Redex found bennifits ?
If others don't use it yet - try it for a month and post any results
Thanks

Take this at face value as I have only owned for about 1 month. I use Redex purchased from ASDA at £3.79 (enough for one tank full) and I get between 33mpg to 35mpg on the 35 mile trip ('A' roads) we sometimes make at weekends. I usually get about 32mpg and the wife manages 35mpg which she thinks is funny.
Round town its currently about 27mpg but not sure what distance the 'average mpg' is over. SOLD - 23my Range Rover Sport D300 Dynamic SE

not used it myself, but i saw it in costco the last time i was there, and thought about using it, as a alternative to a thread on freel2 about adding 2stroke motor oil, which give similar benefits from what i have read
i can't remember the price, but came in a box of 6 bottles, i'll be nipping there this week and find out the cost
Costco's is a large warehouse network, which you have to be a member of (about £25 per year), sells all sorts of stuff, lots of which is cheaper, and pretty good quality

Are there any downsides to dosing your tank with Redex - will it lead to premature wear of valves, injectors, pistons etc

Just found this from the makers of REDEX on web:
"250ml. Dissolves harmful deposits and cleans injectors and fuel system. Reduces emissions and engine noise and increases fuel economy. Cetane improver enhances cold-start performance. Suitable for all diesel engines, including cars fitted with catalytic converters."
I know that my partner has put redex in her DS2 from new has has covered 142k - still got the same injectors.
I believe the injectors are around £ 486 plus vat depending on vin range. (blue or green)

Not sure where you are in Herefordshire, but there is a newish one in Cardiff (not been), the one we usually go to is in Avonmouth, but unless your buying a bit, the travel and membership might not be worth it.

been to costco's today and bought the carton with 4 bottles (not six as thought)
cost was £9.76 (£2.44 a bottle), each bottle does 2 fuel tanks based at 50litres
Added half bottle as suggested to a full tank (64litre) of my FL2, so it will be slightly weaker than what it says on the bottle.
I also filled up with BP diesel instead of Tescos
See how it goes

I normally add a dose of Redex before I take any diesel for MOT emissions test as it does seem to remove the crud. They always pass as well. Renny Thomson

Many years ago, more than I care to admit, Redex was very popular. The demise of Duckhams Adcoids ( a cube size of a sugar lump) meant that Redex came into its own, Most garages had a squirty can by the side of the pump and you could have a squirt or more depending on your views. I used to use it regularly but have not done so for some years. Engine oils were not as sophisticated as now, in many cases just single viscosity. I ran a Standard 8 on Castrolite 5 rather like cat's urine- less smell!
When I lived in Coventry, many years ago (again) when there was a British Motor Industry Redex was put through a series of test runs. I seem to recall (cannot vouch for it) that Daimler Tank engines were tested on various types of oils and in the very cold test the engine filled with just redex started at very much lower temperatures. I do not know what happened on the high temperature cycle

Have used REDEX for a number of years, not just landrovers and always found it to be cost effective, mpg, wear n tear etc. These days its hard to tell with modern diesel engines.
I used to drive coaches (a posh bus) and the fleet engineer always used to swear by it, failing Redex a small amount of petrol esp when driving on the winter ski trips abroad, but that was prob to do with freezing derv. Well it was a long time ago.
These days my D3 and SWMBO's citroen picasso alway get a shot of Redex or similar on a MONTHLY basis. Club N.E.R.D.s

There was talk that someone was going to try this and report back, did anything come of it I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.
