I had a Halford starter pack but id say for the larger diesels with a dead battery, ie starter not even clicking I wouldnt waste your money. My starter battery packed up after charging my mobile with the included inverter!
Worst thing is with these is if you haven't recently charged the battery pack it probably wont start a small diesel engine,(Remembering a petrol has lower compression and sparks to assist starting) because the safety interlock doesn't allow the charge through without sensing a voltage like the annoying modern chargers.
Instead of replacement, I spent £60 on a set of massive jump leads with brass clips. They are absolutley amazing. They'll start up the disco from totaly dead without even revving the donor vehicle.
No worries about charging or working in the cold.
Couldn't recommend this route enough. TOP TIP btw, never loan good jump leads out!
The DBPOWER 500A 10800mAh Portable Car Jump Starter?
In the alternative the NOCO Boost HD looks good & is available in 1,000 to 4,000 amp versions at between £69.20 & £208 from Amazon. Presumably I would be OK for the D4 with the 1,000 amp at £69.20?
If I was to go this way I'd probably opt for the 1,500 amp version.
If so would anyone like to update their opinions expressed up to now please or comment on the NOCO?

I bought one of these and it's excellent. I've tried it out on the TDV6 RRS with a completely flat battery and she started no problem. It was on offer for £62.99 when I bought it so it's gone up slightly...

I have been offered a brand new & unused Clarke Jump Start 4000 for £80.
It was purchased 12 months ago for c. £150, but I am a bit wary as it has not been unboxed, and the battery may have fully discharged in the last year.
Does anyone please know how long the warranty is & whether it is transferable?
The YABER Jump Starter 1500A Peak, 20000mAh Battery Booster at £72.99 referred to by knwatkins looks like a better bet though.

Noco say that the 1500 amp version @ £117.78 will "safely jump start a dead battery in seconds on most gasoline engines up to 7.0 liters and diesel engines to 4.5 liters."
They claim that the 2000 amp version @ £168.24 will cope with "most gasoline engines up to 8 liters and diesel engines up to 6 liters"
That being so I assume that it would be quite safe to go for the 1500 amp version, or should one over specify to be on the safe side? I don't have, and don't expect to have a diesel vehicle of over 3 litres, and none of my petrol cars are over 4.2 litres.

HOWEVER : A word of warning , about charging the GB70 you MUST charge it via the Cigar Lighter Outlet , while the engine is running - This give you 13.5 volts - Which in turn will give you 100% charge . At first , I used the Wall Charge method - This will only give you 12 volts - Which I thought would be OK . But it only achieved 75% charge . For I thought there was something wrong , for after 12 hours charge - The GB70 was still showing 75% charge [Green charging light just pulse On/Off] .
So I contacted NOCO in the USA - They explained about the two charging methods - That the GB70 needs the higher voltage to achieve 100% charge . That the Wall Charging [using the USB] is not recommended , as it will only ever reach 75% [ Unless you have one that gives 13.5 volts of more ] - That you must use the Car Charge method to achieve the 100% that is required .
I then plugged it into car Cigar Lighter Outlet , and went for a drive -And in less that 1 hour it showed 100% charge [Green charging light went solid]
There are quite varied reviews, but that seems to be the case with almost any product - one has to look at the overall balance IMHO.

My Yaber linked to above shows full charge after charging from the wall socket. Something that did confuse me though was that it didn't like to be charged with one of the new 'fast chargers' we get with mobile phones these days. A standard 5V 2.1A charger is needed.Kev

Yes no big deal, you can charge it via the mains USB up to a certain point, for the full charge you need to use 12v, mine was on charge via mains overnight but hadn’t been full charged, plugged the USB in to the accessory socket and within 20 minutes it was fully charged.

I have one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/TACKLIFE-Car-Jump...amp;sr=8-2 which I bought on a lightening deal last year, it's on offer at the moment at around £56 It has stayed in the car for the majority of the time and been used to charge phones etc while camping. After it had been sitting in the back of the car for about 6 months in one week I used it to jump start a Kia Picanto, a V8 Discovery and a V8 Defender which it managed without problem on the one charge. It has 5 lights on it to gauge the power reserve, it had 3 left lit after the 3 jump starts Flinty99 also has one and has used it on various occasions without a problem.Cheers Ian

Apologies for dragging up an old thread. I hear a lot about poor battery etc and as I don't have a Disco yet I still like to keep buying bits so I am fully prepared! How is everyone coping with the Tacklife T6? Think it's the one I am going to go for.
Small enough to keep in the car, enough to jump the D4 3/4 times, price is on what I would like to spend (because I am tight) so wondering if everyone's is still performing well?

After Ian's [Hairy Dan] review [above], I clicked the Amazon button to order the Tacklife T6.
However as soon as the sale was confirmed, up popped the Tacklife T8 at the bottom of the page at just £74
The T6 would've been more than adequate but for just £11 more, I cancelled the T6 and bought the T8.
Edited to Add: Ive just cancelled the T8 and reinstated the T6 order.
The T6 has the case and leads for charging phones - don't think the T8 has.
Also the T6 seems more compact, and it's got its own carry case.
Still arriving tomorrow though. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
< ‘tis but a mere scratch …….. it’ll polish out.
