Just an update , used the DB Power unit this morning on my sons Renault Traffic van (-7c here) as his battery was flat , and it started straight away .
Didn't get any visual indication of remaining battery level on the display after use , plugged into mains and it showed 83% and soon charged to 100% .

Early next year my car will be sitting for 5 weeks unused, and it doesn't like sitting for 2 weeks let alone 5 without draining the battery, so I've been thinking about getting one of the above.
We also have a motorhome (2.3L diesel) so it would be handy for that as like any motorhome there are periods where it sits unused for a while.
Anyone have practical experience of a starter pack....looking to pay no more than about £150, but here seem to be loads available Confused

Leave a C-TEK charger connected, the battery will not die and need a starter pac.

Could have used one this morning. Battery completely dead. No warning.
Got another car to jumpstart from. Jump leads in the garage. D4 parked nose up to the garage door. Tried to take the gearbox out of park but then needed a screwdriver to release the parking brake. Screwdrivers in the garage. Doh
RAC called.

Agreed.....the problem is the motorhome is stored offsite with no access to an electrical supply, and the car will be away from home too, with the same problem.
I have a C-TEK charger, but in this instance it wouldn't be of any use Thumbs Up

Think solar panel better option keeps the battery topped up to preventing hopefully dropping off to a point it won't recover from and needing a new battery. Especially motor home a roof mounted one ideal.

Yes, I'm looking at a roof mounted solar panel solution at the moment.
I'm just waiting for Swift to confirm if my warranty will be invalidated if I get it done by an non-authorised source.

Just a quick update. After deciding I didn't want to lug around one of the bigger heavier "professional" units, I spoke to a friend who recommended one of these, so I pulled the trigger.
I haven't used it yet, but first impressions of the unit itself are good...it's of high quality construction, using high quality materials.
The unit comes in a rigid protective storage pouch, and is probably slightly bigger than the size and weight of a house brick.
It comes with various attachments, an in-built LED light, and can be recharged on the move through a 12v socket, or mains. It can also recharge phones etc through USB ports and includes leads for that.
The customer feedback seems very good, so I'll have to wait to see if it does what it says it does..It was also fully charged on arrival.

Just a heads up these are on offer on Amazon for £59.99 a saving of £20 from the usual price (not sure how long the offer is on for so be quick!)

I bought this around three years back, sits in the back of the Disco, not used it on the D4 till a couple of weekends ago, ignition on, “charge battery” came up, click click click went the starter motor, so plugged it in, left it about 5 minutes, it turned over and started no problem.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B014R5...&psc=1

Used it on other vehicles a few times, but on nothing as big as a 3.0 before. It’s started dead flat 2.5 diesels in the past, trick is to connect it and not to try to start it straight away, leave it a few minutes to let the power pack pass a bit of charge to the vehicle otherwise you’ll more than likely melt the cables to the battery pack.
