United Kingdom 2010 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 XS Auto Stornoway GreyDiscovery 4
Recently Purchased D4

I just picked up my 59 plate ex demonstrator D4 XS in Stornoway grey last week and am loving it so far. It’s certainly been the weather to use it up in Scotland over the past week or so.

I have a couple of questions/concerns..
What is the general consensus on taking a D4 through a Carwash? Any possible damage to the body work - will it fit?
Also, should my Disco 4 have a low on windscreen wash warning light? - I ran out of screen wash on the drive up from the Stealers and was surprised not to be notified before this happened. This is my first Land Rover after having Merc's, VW's and BMW’s so am amazed that at over £40K for a car it doesn't have a screen wash warning light.

Welcome to the forum sir Thumbs Up

An Auto Car wash is always a no-go for me, brushes just scratch the paintowrk, get a hand-job (oo-err) if availble or the trust bucket and sponge.

Not sure on screen wash indicator sorry

Welcome Thumbs Up

Not sure about the car wash - would never take mine through. Too many swirl marks on previous cars caused by car washes to take the chance

I have a low wind screen wash warning light on my HSE - I'm guessing this is not the sort of thing that would be different between models.......? Perhaps there wasn't enough anti-freeze in the water of the screen wash and it froze up due to the wind chill when driving...........?

I've just bought an HSE a couple of weeks ago and was about to post the same question about a screenwash indicator. I ran out with no warning last week, the first car I've owned in years without a warning.

If anything my XS is annoying when it runs low on washer fluid, Bongs, Big warning message and demands for me to press buttons to clear the warning. Little bit OTT IMHO but you should definately have a washer fluid "nanny" in yours.

Various tests have shown that a roller car wash produces less damage to a cars paintwork that the "hand" car washes that are popping up in disused filling stations.

Sponge is a no go, a microfibre towel or sheepskin mitt will be lees harmful to your cars paintwork.

My low on washer fluid warning came on this morning for the first time funnily enough. It's pretty OTT, huge warning sign, after clearing you have a nasty looking amber exclamation mark in a triangle beaming out at you from the center dash screen (on HSE). Maybe the fluid just froze where no warning was shown. be happy it doesn't work if it doesn't work, it already annoyed me after 10 minutes.

If your just looking for a quick wash, then use the drive thru foam over jet off type. Don't allow them to use brushes, but be aware that any foam application that is strong enough to soften dirt to jet off will over time dull the paint finish and remove any wax/sealant that you may have applied.

In the vehicle setup menu, isnt there an option to "Turn Warnings On/Off". Is the washer fluid included in this? Mine is "On" and get the big warning when low on washer fluid
