You know what they say about statistics....
Only 141 D5's for sale and 466 D4's for sale in the UK. So what does that say?
D4's are not selling following your logic?

Interesting point Bello35. I was in at Park's Inverness on Friday to have a look at a D5 and was told that the best selling Land Rover at the moment is the D4 and whenever a D5 sells, it's typically to someone coming from another brand (Audi, BMW etc).
The D5 on display had too flat a battery apparently for the tailgate and flap to operate (but oddly had enough charge to start the engine) The salesman was very ken to show me a nearly new D4 which I found odd given I'd gone there especially to look at a D5.
XC90 is looking very tempting now, especially haveing just gone over the figures again. D5 not making a lot of sense now financially. Dave Neil

Have driven the 2.0 (240bhp) and the 3.0d versions. Think the former was 'adequate' but wouldn't personally order one (I like cc and horsepower) but it's opened a whole new customer base and is also, to some extent, being driven by the green credentials thing - everyone is doing smaller engines.
Hate the rear end/number plate 'issue' and if I have one (possibly my next-but-one car) I'll be ordering an 'import spec' rear number plate to offset it further to the left and have two lines of text/numbers. Like the design everywhere else.
Not bothered by the split Vs one-piece tailgate debate as pro's and con's for both - even at 6'2" I'd struggle to reach into boot with lower part closed on D3/4 but appreciate it's use as a bench albeit with much less cover above you. The slide out 'tray' on the D5 seems flimsy to me and creaked and groaned a bit when I sat on it.
I found the D5 interior (HSE spec) great and useful in front, where I sit, storage cubbies and very FFRR'esque - SWMBO loved it. Interior was huge, certainly no issue doing the step-son to uni' run, electric rear seats folded flat (know that it's said it crushes the foams to do that though?) and I don't think any use by me would have me comparing adversely to a D3/4?
Didn't notice anything with stereo on my usage but it is something I'd pick up on in ownership if its a problem as I like my music, loud, a lot of the time.
I was very impressed all round and my initial concern on the lower output 3.0d Vs similar engine in 300bhp guise in RRS and F-Pace was unfounded, didn't notice any difference TBH in general usage (although I do prefer the 3.0 supercharged petrol in F-Pace, my current car, and 4.4 V8d in RRS, my 'next' car).
However, similar to a few years back with D4 Vs RRS, the Disco' gave you 'more for the same' with the better 'luggability' and occasional 7-seat usage with similar luxury levels. That was lost when the FFRR chassis went on the RRS and the D4 was compared to that. That is now level again and why I'd consider the D5 after next RRS, even with the 40+ bhp power deficit.
I must be a sucker for punishment though reading all on this thread as SWMBO gets her Disco' Sport in two weeks time so could have the "two worse LR vehicles" in a few months time

Hi jimbg,
D4's are on the roads since 2009, so 7 years of production. You can't compare! If you do, D5's sales are even worse! Not even 1 year on the road=141 units for sale. In 7 years time there'd be
7 x 141= 987!

Regardless of any stats, I'm simply not seeing them on the road. I drive c.2k miles per month around the South of the country and the London area. All affluent areas, where other LR models are common. In Wimbledon last week, one residential street looked like a LR main dealer car park, every model was parked there except the Velar and D5.
I've spotted a grand total of just 20 D5's on the road in the last 9 weeks. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
2010 D4 HSE (A bit bling)-GONE
2014 D4 HSE (Almost too bling)-GONE
2015 D4 HSE (A heated what?)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Written Off)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Surely the last!) PD1881 rims-GONE

I mentioned in August that I'd seen only one D5 in the dedicated Land Rover car park at Gatcombe Park Horse Trials.
Surprising, Horses + Cotswolds = Land Rover Territory.
Went yesterday to the Badminton Fun Ride, an opportunity for any rider to take their horse and ride and jump around the Badminton Estate. There were hundreds of towed boxes there and, despite looking, I didn't see a single D5. Every other Land/Range Rover model known to man, every 4x4 known to man, but no D5.
I'd have expected three or four to be there several months after the D5 launch.

They went on sale last year and deliveries started trickling thorough at the end of March just in time to beat the tax change.
Some people did not get their cars until April and a deal was done for them on the extra tax involved.

The only place I saw a gathering of D5 was The Game Fair at Hatfield House back in July (im not a tweedster who frequents these events - i was going specifically to visit Lintran stand to see their D5 custom box....which is 30-40% smaller than my D4 box...). Were about a dozen D5s all in rather dreary greys, all rooflines blending in annonymously with all the other parled cars. There were probably afew hundred D4s, all majesticalluy towering above the rest of the car park. Sure, lots more cars because far longer selling period...but was amazed how many registered 65/16/66 - which is basically people buying deliberately ahead of D5.
Volvo XC90 order may be a matter of days away. Dealers chewimg off my eye, cost of change prices hard to resist....

It's so true. That's why i never worry about checking where i'm parked, even at Ikea's parking lot on a sunday! ...this in France of course. I would not do this in the UK though!

I'm not disagreeing with any stats, I'm just hardly seeing any in areas where I would have expected them to be popular.
I do see lots of late reg D4's and all the other LR models. The DS seems very popular as does the RRS. I've even seen 4 Velar's, but still only 20 D5's since I started counting them nearly 10 weeks ago. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I took the daughter out today driving, did 20 miles or so, Lydd to Rye and back and saw 2
Weekend before last went from Kent to Cheadle Staffordshire and saw 20 plus on the return journey, granted not anywhere as near as there was D4/3 sightings but a lot of it is down to knowing what you are looking at/for, once you master that, as they don't stand out like the D4's, it's easy to spot them MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Are you able to elaborate on the “22,000” figure please? Is that worldwide, or UK only? Are you able to provide us with a link that could give us more information on Discovery registration figures? Can I assume that these are registration (rather than sales) figures, which would then include the immediate refresh of LRE, demonstrator, loan and rental fleets?
The last time I saw any monthly registration figures, they’d been horribly distorted by there only being a very small amount of D4 stock to sell for 6 months or so. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
