Rear wiring loom to rear air valve block - chaffing

Quick question as I can't find anything searching.

Has anyone had experience of broken wires or chaffing through insulation for the wiring harness that goes to the rear air valve block?

Car is a late 2004 Discovery 3 HSE TDV6.

I have an intermittent suspension problem, when I hit the raise/lower switch, and occasionally when driving, which gives the 'standard suspension height only' message. Diag says it is right rear corner air valve. The code clears on ignition turn off/on, and on standard suspension settings, the car is level and does not loose height.

Previous owner has had the valve block replaced in the last 2 months, as well as a new compressor and drier (this was to try and solve the problem apparently). I have not yet checked the installation and if any pipe leaks, but am suspecting it might be a wiring issue not activating the right rear corner valve when requested.

Any likely locations where the harness chafes would be very useful to narrow down the search thanks.

I think there is a connector near the rear passenger side wheel arch

Thanks Pete

Yes, the air valve block is attached to the suspension turret in the passenger side rear wheel arch. There is a harness plug that goes into it.

The wiring diagram shows a direct connection to the suspension ECU so it should be easy to test continuity of each wire.

Just wondering if there are any known rubbing points where people have had similar problems.

I had a leaking valve block .. Where the plug goes in.. It was leaking through the pins...

You can see the yellow tape marking where the wires were broken. I srtipped and soldered in some new wiring to the plug...
Hope this helps a little..

That link was useful. I’ve been under the car today and it is clear that whoever looked at the problem before made a pigs ear of it. Those big connector blocks are just hanging down and exposed, the loom has been pulled down and is just hanging, and loads of insulation tape used to try and patch it all up. I haven’t solved the issue and having depressurised the system, it won’t go back up. I’m going to order a new valve block then have a go at checking and resetting all of the loom plugs.

I have a receipt from a garage foranew valve block but the one on there looks very old, not from Feb 2018!!!!

Can anyone confirm the valve block air connections? I believe they are OS strut into the bottom centre, green supply line into the lower of the two end holes, and NS strut to the upper of the two.

Pulled the loom apart and checked it today. There is nothing obvious, and no apparent corrosion, broken wired, chafing or similar issues, so routed them to ensure no rubbing, got some harness protection around them, and put them all back up.

I still have the rear right valve problem though. Clear the fault with my RSW software, or the ignition clears it, and it either re-appears randomly once in a while, or always if the height selector switch is operated (suspension fault, standard height only available). Any fault code generated is rear right valve, although when this happens, special programs also turn off with the 'suspension fault special programs...' message.

I am assuming, having had the valve block apart, that the valves are solenoid operated, in which case I would expect to see continuity across each pair of plug pins. I don't have this, so subject to comment and further investigation, I believe the valve block is fubar. One on order for next weekend, and in the meantime the car is usable and all is good.

While playing and doing this work, the compressor seems to work as required. Lifted the car to target levels and nothing after that. Car is stable and has not sunk during the day, and all seems good.
