Hi all,
I have a camera mounted on a bracket to the rear top stop light and comes on automatically when reverse is selected on my GPS screen.
The image displays with the rear bumper showing at the top of the screen and further away is towards the bottom of the screen (this is correct). However the left and right sides are reversed! So any objects on the passengers side appear on the right side of the GPS screen and not on the left or passengers side!
When connecting it all up the rear view camera's RCA video terminated in a male plug and the GPS's video in cable also had a male RCA plug !! So I had to get a adapter to connect them.
Is it possible that if I got another adapter that converted (swapped) the connections/wires over would the image be correct on the screen?
I had thought of turning the camera through 180 degrees but that surely would then flip the image to have the rear bumper then appearing at the bottom of the GPS screen...wouldn't it? ANYWAY, the damned camera is mounted in the bracket so tight that I am unable to move it
Any help appreciated. regards
Peter

Why is it correct to have the bumper showing at the top when the camera is looking down from above? Maybe I'm missing something but it sounds as though the camera is upside down - rotated 180 deg.

Because the rear bumper is closest to the camera's location and when viewing it on a screen the top of the screen makes sense to have the closest image to the camera appear and the bottom of the screen have the furtherest image. Errr, does that make sense?
Also, at the moment I can't rotate the camera to check! regards
Peter

Where did you tap into the reverse light for the camera?

I soldered the Pos and Neg wires (as can be seen in the link to the camera above) to the reverse light and a ground. These then were routed out from the light cluster across the 1" gap and under the top rear tailgate seal, nearest the light cluster, and then routed inside the trim up to the top centre of the rear door and again out under the clip-on dust seal to the top of the tailgate.
See (not so great) pictures in my gallery. regards
Peter

When a person is standing behind your vehicle, does the person appear to be standing on their head?

Turn the camera the other way up when you can, I think you have a reverse image camera but have it upside down, all the install I have ever seen have had the rear of the car at the bottom of the screen. Cheers

If you are now looking for advice on how to move the camera, do we assume that in your experiment you were rotating your wife I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

I may, or may not, have been rotating my wife, or anything else
As I probable do NOT want to see my wife in the reversing camera picture upside down (or for that matter any other way), I think that rotating just the camera may surfice at this stage regards

If you're having issues rotating the camera, then perhaps rotating the GPS screen during reversing should suffice? Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?
